current vista 64...trying to install win7 home prem/ult 64...BUT IT WON"T LET ME!!! HELP!!!!

i have vista 64, i *should* be able to upgrade to the 7 ultimate/home premium 64, but it says i can't go from 32 to 64, and vice versa which is ridiculous because i want to go from a 64 to 64. anyone have any suggestion??? ALSO, i don't want to do a clean installation, i want to upgrade. and i downloaded it from here, so i don't know what to do

I suggest you to do a clean installation. You'll face a lot of problem if you just upgrade it. You can try transfer all of your file to Drive D. And you can safely format Drive C and do installation on it.

Windows Vista in 64 -bit format is pretty rare. Are you 100% sure your system is 64 -bit and NOT x86 (32 -bit) format. Maybe you thought that x86 meant 64 -bit or something.

Anyway, please recheck. Because, as the launcher tells you, upgrading from a 32 -bit system to a 64 -bit system is NOT possible.

it is most definitely a 64 bit. home premium vista 64 bit. says it on the side of my pc and under my system information. i am not misreading it. it's definitely 64 bit.

Hmmm... That's very strange. Have you ever changed your OS before?

I'm afraid I'm out of options, if you haven't changed OS before, it may be a configuration problem with your PC.
You could also try to Google the exact error.

What I really recommend you to do is that you either copy all your files to the "D:\" driver and/or use Windows Easy Transfer to backup your files and then perform a clean installation. Clean is álways better than upgrading.
