Sims 3 windows 8 super dark or crashes Empty Sims 3 windows 8 super dark or crashes

installed sims 3 and all the expansion packs and made my person went to move her into a house and it crashed.

tried multiple times and it kept crashing.

I changed my compatibility to windows 8(which I'm running) and it seems to have stopped crashing but now the screen is super dark.
