Game crashes , screen turns black and the computer won't react. [SOLVED]

Need help!

I've gotten all Sims 3 up to Supernatural from here. The games work fine until it suddenly freezes and my screen turns black.
It turns black, not off; the screen is still on for e few moments, showing a "bright black" screen, until it falls into rest mode. The computer acts wierd here, because it doesn't really keep going, but seems to try to restart, but can't (on it's own). I always have to "do the bad thing" and Push The Button to make it restart. When it does it's all back to normal.

The problem often occurs after about fifteen, twenty minutes of playing and I get the feeling it often occurs after I do something graficly challanging in the game, but it's not always and it happens even when I do nothing special at all. I really don't think it's anything malfunctioning between the game and my grafics card; I have a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 650Ti 2048MB card and I think that should do. Either way, I'm not having this issue with any other game, only when I play Sims 3, so it seems to me there's something in the download it self...

I got the ultimate fix when I installed it and, as I said, everything is working fine - until the thing simply shuts down. =/
What to do?

It's definitely not the download, it's just the game in general. The Sims 3 has a lot of odd issues, even with computers that are able to play any other games on extra high settings.
Are you using any mods or cc?
Are you on a laptop or desktop?
How high are your settings?

I guess, I just wish I knew where to begin looking! O_o

On a stationary.
I usually play at the higest settings, but I've tried lowering them and it doesn't seem to have any effect. =/

During the installation, choose "Custom" and "Clean installation", if possible.
After installation, restart your PC and test the game again.

And the wierdest thing is, it's not the game (I think) that crashes -
it's the whole computer that simply freaks out and shuts down.

don't get "spit out" and get a failiure message or anything. It just
freezes/turns black, the music/sound freezes on one note for a moment
and I can't ctrl+alt+del, I can't get to the desk, I can't do Anything,
except for restarting my computer the old fashioned style - via the
Button.
Very Very frustrating. -__-

Yeah, sorry about that, I replied on my phone while at work, so I wasn't really thinking, I guess I realized my mistake after I got off break, but it was too late to fix it by the time I got home.

So the actual question I wanted to ask, does your computer do this with ANY other program?

No, not that I have encountered. I do play Sims 3 the most, but I'm pretty sure I play some of my other games for just as long when I'm actully playing, but nothing like that has ever happened while playing anything else than Sims 3. =/

I don't know if I dare say it, but I think I may have fixed it...

I don't really know the details of "how", but I simply (not som simply for a n00b) did a thorough cleaning of my computer with CCleaner and diskdefragmented the other day (I also did a virus and spywere-search, but it didn't find anything), and since then - no black screen during gameplay! =D

I assume something interfered with the gamefiles, or something, and that a good scrubbing was all it needed. If not, I'm sure I'll know and then I'll get back to you! ^_^
