Hello,
No, all versions will do just fine, as long as they are non-modified (meaning the original installer is used) and you follow these instructions: https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t1171-must-read-how-to-install-the-sims-3-correctly
DO NOT skip any steps and RE-DOWNLOAD both the manual patch and the Ultimate Fix.

Although from what I've noticed, version acquired through Steam have been doing interesting things when trying to get cracked. I don't know maybe it's just a select few.

Besides, the Steam versions of The Sims 3 are not recognized as separate games by your PC anyway.
