How to apply patch game with .package and .sims3packs installed?[SOLVED]
Hi again.
I've been wanting to update my game for a while now but I'm scared that it might make my game crash or make my saved games unplayable or make some things disappear in the game. I want to make sure I'll do it right.
I understand that aside from backing up my Saves, I have to remove my .package files from the Mods folder before applying patch. But how about my .sims3packs? I have hundreds of .sims3packs installed. I've also deleted them from my Downloads folder to save space.
Should I uninstall them all from the launcher before applying patch? Or I shouldn't worry about them?
I would really appreciate it if you guys teach me step by step how to install patch correctly with .package and .sims3packs installed.

Sims 3 pack files you should be fine. Its always the packaged files or mods that you have to worry about. If you are using mods (example Mastercontroller) or whatever you want to make sure the mods like that are updated for the new patch you are going to install. Then you want to remove the old version of the mods and put in the new version after patching. I wouldn't uninstall all of your sims 3 pack files. There isn't any need to do that. It all comes down to the mods and package files.
Any issue I've ever had with the game not working after a game update always came down to a mod that needed to be updated to the latest patch.
Store Updates I've never had any problems with since that is only updating your store content.

Oh ok. Thanks for clearing that out! And for including the thing about Store Updates which I haven't thought of asking. Good thing I don't have to uninstall anything.
Uhm, how am I going to update my mods?

The only way I know of updating MODS would be to go to the source where got them from? When I used to use MODS, often I would google the MOD name. . . . it's a hit and miss technique.

They are refered to as Custom Content aka CC, but as causing problems in a game, yes they can. I have had more problems with objects and skins than anything else. I don't understand the mechanics of it all nor the why. The closest I can come to explaining is that the CCs are made by users that developed the CC using "their" curent patch (ex: 1.42) and if you have 1.50, there's a huge chance the CC will conflict with your game.pauuchan wrote:clothes, hairs, skins and objects aren't mods right? i don't need to update them?

I do know that on modsims website, most creators try to update their stuff to the newest patch.
Of course, I may be wrong here and I'm sure I will be corrected if so.

Clothing and hair cause a lot of issues, and slow down your game, however it's not exactly patch incompatibility. It's just a quirk of the game.

Re: How to apply patch game with .package and .sims3packs installed?[SOLVED]
I'm playing the game with the hairs, clothes, skins and a few objects on the Mods folder and they don't seem to affect the game play. Though I can't play the guitar after University, I don't think it has anything to do with the .package files.
I'm not playing with any Mods file right now. Still too lazy to find for their updated versions.
Right now I'm good.
Thanks everyone!
