Video game developer - cant increase 'game playing' skill for promotion

My sim went to uni and became a top level nerd - got offered video game developer and took it but cannot increase his 'playing games' level. ive tried everything, console/pc games, hacky sack all sorts!! help! its now on an angry face and i cant get him promoted

I would try removing them, and see if your game works then.

I have no clue, but after a bit of searching, I found two different opinions.
1, it's any electronic game at all.
2, it's most/only affected by the online gaming through a console.
