Having trouble with the World Adventures installation.[SOLVED]

I installed the base game with no problems, and I've started the installation process for World Adventures, but here's where I'm hitting some problems.

I've started step 3 in the installation guide, but when I run the patch in the Crack 1 folder, it comes out as a string of random symbols. I think that means it's written in a different alphabet, Cyrillic if I had to guess. The other patches don't work at all because it says they're coded for the wrong region. I set up my game region as USA.

How can I fix this? Can I skip all of them and just apply the manual patch instead?

EDIT: On a hunch, I tried the manual patch approach and the installation of WA and the other expansion packs is going smoothly now. Sorry for the unnecessary thread. When technology breaks down, I sometimes jump the gun and ask for help even when it turns out I don't really need it.
