Points ? [SOLVED]

Hello ,

I actually have a small question, rather than a complaint. Every user has so-called "points", but what do they actually indicate ?
I assume it has something to do with how many people "click" or view your posts, or something similar ?

Their Social Networking "skill".

They are the same thing as Likes and Dislikes on YouTube. Notice the + and - on the right?

i thought they were penalty points for not obeing the rules,like posting in wrong forms ectra,when i started here i was on 0 and after a few post helping others out i was one -2 points because i answered in a wrong forum wich was the original poster fault,now i am back on 0

Indeed, reputation is controlled by the "+" and "-" buttons.
Points are... they're just there. You get +1 point each day and you'll get points when you post a topic or comment. In some sections you'll get more points for opening a topic.

Reputation is only earned via the "+", "-" and "Thanks" buttons. But the same idea is handled, so when you get a negative vote in some sections, you'll lose more reputation points then when used in a normal section.

Not everyone uses the "+", "-" and "Thanks" button.

Hey Phoebe ,

I actually gave you a "thanks" once, not in the Mac section though (I hardly understand anything what is written in there, lol) but rather for this very nice post here. You can easily recognize thanks by the fact that the posting background is yellow.

Keep in mind too that only the person who created a topic can actually give a "thanks" to one user who answers; all other users can only give "+" or "-". And don't worry too much about this stuff: people will soon realize - if they haven't done so yet - that you are actually one of the very few active Mac Helpers on the forum, and will possibly acknowledge your posts more, as time passes by.

Beyond that, thanks to all other users for answering here too. I think I get the idea about the "points" now.

Yes, a "Thanks" gives more reputation/points, but can only be used one. Use it on, for example, the post that answers your question.
