hello there, im having a problem with saving game. sometimes when im trying to save and exit it says that there is an error No12 and i have to check it to readme. this error is about saving the world it says.. what is this? i have this problem very offen and i cant take it anymore. im playing for hours and at the end i cant save the game. error 12. [SOLVED] 611149516

Patch the game and download Nraas' Error Trap.

Beyond what "Tun3r" said, I also suggest you look at my posts about "memory creation" in the following topic: https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t11543-sims-3-error-code-12#80583

Also, if you take a look at this article here, you will see that #3 is about "assigning more RAM memory to the game". Download and apply that "4 GB patch". Keep in mind that you have to patch the "TS3W.exe" file in Program files(x86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin (this is the Sims 3 base game location).

Error 12 relates to a save fail, this could be due to various things, one thing to also do is save not save & quit.

By doing a save on its own, you can see if a error happens and if it does you can try again, when you do save and quit together, there is no going back.

Well I was to believe that it still quits even with a error,, as I never had a error 12 I was assuming on what I read about the issue, but I still do a save then hit the quit button

Which is the better way, although it's very rare that the save process will work on the second, third or whatever try - if you have that "error 12". But then, you could still use the NRAAS "Porter mod" to transfer your sims to another neighbourhood.

@Vivi: what could also help you is to use more "virtual memory".

1) Click "Start", then go to the "System Control Panel". Then click on "System and Maintenance".
2) If you now click "System", you should see some information about your computer performance, and some hardware info too. On the left-hand side click "Advanced System Settings".
3) Now you should get to the "Advanced" tab automatically. There you'll find "Performance". Now click on the "Settings" under Performance.
4) Again, go to the "Advanced" tab, click on "Change" under "Virtual memory".
5) You should now see your hard-drives in a small window. Just click on your main hard-drive ("C:"), then select "custom size". Now increase the "Maximum size".
6) You may have to restart the computer now. Then you're done Very Happy

i decide to make a copy of my town and save the game to different town every time as i read in a tip because i couldnt do anything to fix the last error and i lost the game again.I'm a bit confused about error trap how it works... and how can i have it.

I'm sorry to hear that none of what we wrote (seemingly) worked, but there is this:

First of all, for installing "sims3packs" or ".package" files, have a look at this article here: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files

For the actual "ErrorTrap" mod, go here: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/ErrorTrap

Just put the "ErrorTrap.package" into My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages. For ErrorTrap YOU don't need to do anything - just let the mod do its job automatically Wink

If nothing of what we have told you so far helps, then there is only one solution (besides using the "Porter mod"): you need to save very often (let's say about every 5 "real-time" minutes ?). Then exit the game to "relieve" the RAM. After that re-start the game.

i dont belive it! i did exactly what you are writing right now! i saved every 15 minutes and when my sim went to university it happen again error 12 but this time i open the game and i have to start a new one... it delete my old game! im so disappointed.

OK, go to My documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Saves. Do you see a folder with a ".backup" ending ? I don't know how it happened that your savegame was deleted, but if you just remove that ".backup" ending , so that it looks like this here for example: "(Name of your savegame).sims3", then you should have "restored" your savegame; from the point when it last worked.

And again, if you download and install the Porter mod, I think you have to click on the city hall symbol, then go to NRAAS/Porter and select "Pack". That way your sims will be transferred to another town.

Don't know, maybe that was updated later, but I'm 100% sure it doesn't quit. It did crash sometimes though if I tried saving again after Error 12 or 13. 16 is weird, sometimes the second save attempt would be successful even if I didn't even un-pause the game after the first...

thank you for your help i found my old game finally. i did what you told my with mods and when i open the game it says that something change and its not the tupical settings and the game will have problems but i put continue and after that it says that this new setting is ''NRaas_ErrorTrap.package'' and i put yes. is that right?

and something else is that during playing it inform me that there is an
error with the name of a sim and error trap recorded : 1 .

Hello again,

I'm not sure, but it's very important that you download and install the version of "ErrorTrap" which is compatible for your "Sims 3 base game". Open the launcher, then look at the bottom. The symbol that is on the far left is that for the Base game. Just go with your mouse cursor over the symbol, then you should see a number. This number is the "version" of your base game, so you have to download from the NRAAS page the right "version" of the mod too (look under "patch level" at the NRAAS site).

I suppose your "window" that pops up looks like this here ?

its ok with this window you post i did everything you told me again but when i send him to university it takes about 20' for loading and i cant save it...again error 12. whats going on now with university do you have any ideas?

It may be just a small thing, but you could try PAUSING the game, and then use the option "save". After that, either play on or quit the game without saving.
By the way: I don't recommend using the option "save & quit" Wink

. Also, if you have a save error, you could also pause the game and try using the option "save as..". Then you type in a new name for your save. Your previous savefile should still be there after you do this, so don't worry.

Do you have lots of ".sims3packs" or ".package" files installed ? If yes, you might want to uninstall a few (if they are .sims3packs, try un-installing them with the launcher, if they are .packages, then it's enough to move them out of the "Mods" folder).

What about your computer ? Do you feel it is strong enough to handle The Sims 3 and several expansions ? If you are not sure, look at this article here: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_System_Requirements
You can also google for a tool called "Gamebooster". This has helped a lot of people to run the game smoother. You should find it on "Piratebay".

More generally, make sure to free up some disk space on your computer; and you should try defragmenting your hard-drive too.

Another thing: go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and delete the following cache files:
-CASPartCache.package
-compositorCache.package
-scriptCache.package
-simCompositorCache.package
-socialCache.package
-plus the contents of the folders "WorldCaches" & "Thumbnails"

Also, if you have to quit your game because of an error, look again at the location of your savefiles (I showed you above). Are there any save folders with a ".bad" ending ? If yes, just delete them. And go to the "Sims 3 folder" and inside, open the folder "CurrentGame.sims3". Are there any contents in it ? If yes, delete all contents.

And most importantly: please make sure that you backup your save regularly; for example on an external hard-drive or a USB-stick.

i think i got it! i tried to change town with NRAAS/Porter but everytime it stucks and close automatically so i saved my family and create a new game in another town nad i choose that family..i dont have any problem with saving until now neither with university..i hope this is the right way to go on... thank you!
