New tool for the Ultimate Fix
Hey everyone!
So here we all are, trying to help people with the Sims 3, and as far as I am concerned, 75% of the problems we get is because the Ultimate Fix wasn't applied correctly. So I thought, what if it could become automatic?
So here is the Beta version of the Ultimate Fix Helper.
When you launch the app, here is what happens:
¤ It will scan your registry for installed games, and store the paths in a .txt file (so any external drive game won't be recognized). The Windows (oh yes, only works on windows ) has to be in English (the registry reads in English for now, but that could be changed over time). The game, however, can be installed in any language (at least I hope so).
¤ Then, it will ask for the unzipped Ultimate Fix folder. This is the folder containing all the Crack and games folders.
¤ Then you have a choice: either you can choose to update your game, and the app will copy the files from all folders except the Crack folder to their respective locations, or to play the game and it will do the same with the Crack folder.
Can you please test the app (I have tested it myself, and Admin did too, so it should be safe I'm not planting viruses into your hard drive )
Typical test scenario:
¤ Choose your Ultimate Fix
¤ Choose to update
¤ When it's done, apply a patch, or start the game and check for an error (like there should be!)
¤ Choose to play
¤ Start the game
Please comment below as to:
¤ If it works with a Windows with a different language than English (I doubt it strongly, but that would save me work **falsely hopping**)
¤ If you have a Windows with a different language, tell me and I'll ask you for stuff in the registry so we can make it multi language
¤ Any error that you get? I would like to make it as error free as possible
¤ If you have any ideas, comments, ... feel free to comment!
In the long run, it would be cool to automate the Ultimate Fix folder choice. But since the app keeps the install paths in store, putting it inside the Ultimate Fix folder would make it useless... So maybe we could ask to put the unzipped UF in the same folder as where they keep the app... What do you think?
I'm excited to hear from you all!!

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
Thanks for the return!
Ok, this isn't an error I implemented. So it means windows made it.
I probably need to lower the .NET framework version.
I'll check this tonight
//EDIT: This new version should be working for Windows XP until 8! (updated the link!)

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
Ok, is your registry key still HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sims for all the installs?
This error means that the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sims\The Sims 3 was not found...

Hello,
XP doesn't have Wow6432Node. Its HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sims\The Sims 3.

Hello there,
It looks very good.
You might want to add a nice l'il icon for the program though.

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
I got quite a bit further this time, but after I click "ok" here, nothing happens. That might be because my game is up to date and the fix in place though.
Also, I extracted the fix to my desktop "G4TW" folder and I got a message that I had to extract the fix to a valid folder. Not sure what that means but it seems to me that all the fix's folders need to be in a folder by themselves and it can't be extracted to some random "temp" folder that has other junk.
That's not a problem per se, but something that should be mentioned in your user guide.
I can try to start the game with the app, but not until tomorrow because I simply don't have the time or patience to try it right now (since it takes forver).

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
This means you have messed up with your game files ( ) and either a .exe or a .dll file is missing in one of your directories...
Then, clicking ok doesn't do anything. But as you can probably see, the progress bar progressed ( ), so it did a bit...
The app doesn't update your game for you, it only replaces files!
You should be pointing to the Ultimate Fix folder containing all the folders, and it checks for all of them! If you got the error: "Please select a valid Ultimate Fix folder!", that should mean that the folder you selected was missing one folder or more... Otherwise I made a mistake somewhere...

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
I freshly extracted it to that folder, when it was in a folder by itself it worked. I'll test some more tomorrow, I really should get to bed soon.
It would make sense that I'm missing exe's, I don't have everything installed, only 6 EP's and no SP's.
The game works fine, so I don't think I'm missing any that I shouldn't be missing.

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
Ok, but then maybe the registry keys are still there, that's what it detects!
And if the subfolders of the Ultimate Fix are moved, it won't work. It has indeed to be freshly unzipped...
I should go to bed soon too! Good night!

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
Nope, no registry keys here:
That would be likely to cause an error during startup or service initialization error.
What I'll do is this: I'll go through my game folders and see if all the exe's and dll's are present.
Not for another few hours though, I'm attending a women's group at school this morning lol.

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
Thanks!
Thing is, it goes through the registry and takes the expansions installed, then tries to take the files accordingly. So any EP or SP you didn't install shouldn't matter.
If you can't find anything wrong with your files, I'll make a new version for you to try with pop ups so we can see where the app goes wrong and I can fix it!

Oh, I don't know lol.
Be creative; maybe a mix of both.

Hi there,
The icon looks good, yes. You can always "update" if after a while, right?
Anyhow, Lady ElDi is away for the weekend, so she'll reply when she's back.

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
Yes, exactly!
Ok thanks, will wait then.
In the meantime, if any other helper wants to test it under Windows (any version) and give me their result that would be awesome!
Thanks a lot!!

Now I know why it's not working for me (I haven't read the opening post before playing around with that). Well, I guess that I can't test it, then - as my OS is in German.

Technically, my OS is in Dutch. I changed a registry entry to change it to English, though not everything has changed.

Re: New tool for the Ultimate Fix
Hey!
So I updated the app, it will now show a more detailed error message... So please Lady ElDi test it again!
Sorry Carlos, there will come a time (I hope) when this tool will be multi language supported... And for that I will need your help to translate the registry keys!

Shamrock, I appreciate your effort and willingness to make things easier. But as I said in my topic here about the "please insert disc"-prompt, it's quite a shame that more and more people don't manage to correctly apply the fix. AND: if people have problems with copying + pasting the files from the fix, how are they going to be able to mess around with the language of the registry, if their OS is not English ?
