Sims 3 mounts and then 'stops working'

Hi, 
I've recently just downloaded and installed all expansion packs for sims 3 after World Adventures and up to Town Life Stuff. 
However, when I go to mount the torrent it takes me to the launcher, lets me click play and just as I'm about to get all excited about playing my new expansion packs, the game closes telling me that Sims 3 has stopped working. 
 
I have read the 'must read how to install the sims 3 correctly' and applied all that I can. Slightly frustrated is an understatment. 
Could you let me know if there is a fix for this or if this is a consequence of me installing the new update (which I am unsure if I have done).

No need to mount the expansion. Extract using WinRAR, then double-click the Setup file...
Do not update via Launcher, check your version is still 1.50 (hover over the base game icon).
If it is under, apply the Manual Patch before the Ultimate Fix!

Tried and works now! 
I think it was the fact I had downloaded the latest update but I did a systems restore and reapplied everything and it's all fine and dandy!
