quit or continue crash

this may be lengthy but i want 2 try & thoroughly explain my problem.

i have the base game & generations installed. both installed & updated with no problems.

i placed the #crack/generations into the base game - game bin. all was well.

when i try 2 launch the game: the screen goes black & i get the modifications popup with the option 2 quit or continue. if i choose neither - i can cntrl/alt/delete 2 exit the popup - but upon clicking continue, which i do because i want 2 play the game - the computer freezes & will either crash on its own or sit there frozen until i manually power it off 2 reboot.

i saw other responses where most just clicked continue & the game worked but i also saw another response where the person had the same problem i have. the freeze & crash. they were told the continue button launches the game. it doesnt. its also not clickable in the taskbar because when you click continue the computer freezes.

is there any other workaround 2 this? i dont prefer 2 use or have any mods in my games. bad enough im pirating the game itself LOL. but i never had the modifications error in any of your other games. i also have ambitions. i only wanted 2 install generations because i only have rOOm left 4 that & also because you said the FIX would only work with generations installed.

again - everything is ok until i get 2 the modifications popup - then the computer freezes & the only option is 2 reboot. please give us a FIX 4 that. im going

Hi there, this seems to be common, this particular error. My guess would be that Generations requires a particular expansion perhaps. The fix works with all of the games, it just requires that Generations be installed. You can run every expansion and stuff pack with the new crack provided with Generations. Something you could try is uninstall your game, delete the Electronic Arts folder found in your documents folder if it still exist and reinstall. If this does not fix your problem it could be a hardware/driver related error.

this was a vanilla clean install.

the problem comes in when you click continue. clicking continue causes the computer 2 freeze. you cannot click the taskbar because the computer is frozen.

i shouldnt have 2 install every game the sims have made 2 only play the ones i want. (ambitions & generations)

please admin - speak 2 the FIX gods & create a fix 4 those who share my unfortunate dilemma of the modifications pop up freeZe & who would enjoy playing & installing only the games they prefer.

there is NO hardware problem. the base game & ambitions played just fine before i decided 2 expand.

Well, this problem is new to me, because the "Click continue and start game from taskbar" works for me and most of the people.
Please first try as Favorlock suggested:

1. Completely uninstall the base game, Ambitions and Generations.
2. Restart your PC.
3. Reinstall the base game, but DO NOT apply the included crack!
4. Reinstall Ambitions, but DO NOT apply the included crack!
5. Reinstall Generations and apply the included crack to the base game's installation folder. (As described in the included Installation Guide)

If it still doesn't work after this or if you get any other problems, please let me know below.

those are the eXact directions i followed the 1st time. i just reinstalled everything as per your directions again. the problem still is with the modifications error popping up & NOT letting me continue. my pc freeZes. i have NO mods & have NEVER gotten that popup before.

the ppl who have said continue works 4 them have also posted that by the time they enter the game - it crashes.

i think i will just uninstall & wait a few until you guys have another FIX i can download. ive uninstalled & reinstalled more times than a sims programmer at this point & keep having the same problem.

i know its not hardware related because it wasnt happening until now.

You say that other people are having the same problem, but don't judge to fast; it works for me and almost everyone else on this Forum. The crashing seems to be a random problem. but if it fails again i will just wait 4 another possible crack 4 just ambitions. its really the only eXpansion i want to play. if there is a crack 4 that where i DONT need to also install generations please link me to it. thanks again 4 your help. it was appreciated.

Well, that one hasn't anything to do with the crack stuff. It's a change in your PC's configuration, so don't worry about the cracks, just follow the instructions from that link I sent in my previous post and see if it makes any difference.

question: if i install ONLY the base game & ambitions - would the ambitions crack work the same way as the generations crack does if i dropped it into the base game folder?

No because the Ambitions crack is not the same as the Generations crack. Any game before Generations and you have to apply the crack to the game the crack was made for. If you install Generations you just have to apply the Generations crack to the base game.

so can i just take the ambitions crack from the FIX rar & apply it to ambitions? or is generations mandatory?

also - can it be only the base game & generations? or does there have 2 be a third game?

i only have room to install 2 and play comfortably. i prefer ambitions but if generations will make the game work again ill install that one without ambitions.

do you happen to have a crack that is exclusively for ambitions?

sorry 2 be a pain - just really getting frustrated that i cant play my game anymore.

If you do not install generations you must apply the cracks the old way. Before Generations was released you had to apply a crack to every expansion and every stuff pack as well as the base game. But now that generations is out, if you install generations, you only have to apply the crack that comes with Generations/Sims 3 Fix to the Base Game's /Game/Bin/ folder.

You just want to play The Sims 3 and Ambitions correct? If so I'll provide you with the crack you need.

So I've uploaded my files into folders. You need to go to:

Download the files found in each of those folders. Apply the cracks to the appropriate folders. If these do not work please tell me.

ok great! im gonna try 2 do that now. im doing a fresh install so it may take a bit 4 me 2 reply back. but i will post back when done. thanks again! wish me luck.

I've tried that before and it's not going to work. If I'm right, you need Generations in order to make it all work together. Since the update of Generations, the other expansions got updated too. That might be the cause of this issue.
Anyhow, please try it and let us know the result.
