Problem downloading Sims 3 Island Paradise

When running the setup, the installer says I need to update and when I click ok, it just says there was a problem updating the game and closes. WTF? Help me please. I feel like I can never win. 

You probably need to manually patch it.  I downloaded the manual patch from SimsVIP.  She has both the super patch and the incremental patch.  I never patch through the launcher.  I download her patches.  In fact, at some point, I'm sure The Sims 3 site will be gone like The Sims 1 and The Sims 2.  Probably be a few years though.  I have saved every patch that has come out on a hard drive if I ever have to reinstall my game.  The future EP is the last, so, I'm going to save the last super patch and that one will be the needed one for reinstalling the game.

i've had that problem in the past and have found that the installing the latest patch before installing the newest xpac fixes the problem. i also always use the manual patch instead of using the launcher to patch.
