Attention! Possible Sims Installation Problem on Mac! Empty Attention! Possible Sims Installation Problem on Mac!

Post by Phoebe Sat 06 Jul 2013, 22:14

Hello to all fellow Mac users,

As few of you already know, lately we have been seeing lots of installation problems on Mac thread, especially after Island Paradise came out. At first we all thought it's about applying crack folders wrong again, as usual, but then I decided to install Sims 3 on my Mac again and I've encountered with the same problem: I installed IP but on launcher it doesn't show and also it doesn't add to the main game. I've tried every possible way, hit to the forum, and also looked to others but I couldn't find a solution.

That's why I asked help and advice from Admin, Lady ElDi and Shamrock, and we're all kinda trying to solve this possible problem right now. Altough I am not sure if it's a real problem for every Mac user, maybe it effects only few or anything else, I am not sure of it. That's why I was away from Mac thread, not being able to help you for some time. Because I don't like the idea of saying things to do without knowing they actually work or not. That's why I want to inform all of you about this process, please don't feel alone if we're ignoring you. We just need some time to identify the problem, if there is a general problem. If there is nothing wrong with game, we need to identify what's wrong with us, whom has the same problem over and over again.

I just want all from you that if you had the same problem or if you managed to work your game with latest patch and crack, just let us know. And please, please be patient while we're dealing with this.

Thank you for listening!

Helper edit: A possible solution can be found here.

Attention! Possible Sims Installation Problem on Mac! Empty a step in the right direction?

Post by Guest Tue 16 Jul 2013, 16:38

I can't say that I found a fix for this issue, and maybe it's just me. but I downloaded the Fast Lane, KP sweet treats and University life several months ago couldn't get the Fast Lane to install but the others worked fine. Later I did a clean reinstall I kept the .rar files of those EPs so I just unpacked them to use again,  But when I tried to install the packs again NONE would work, luckily I don't remember to empty my trash so the .dmg that I had for University originally  was still in there I opened it and it installed fine then when I checked there was as difference in how my computer was seeing the files.  So I don't know if this changed happened due to an update of how macs are reading the files or like I said before it's just me. ( I am having issues uploading the image)  several files inside the installer that worked were Unix Executable files, but now my mac is reading them as document files.  The names of the files are "autorun.inf"  "setup.ini" "setup.inx" and "setup.isn"

I think the problem starts with supernatural; as supernatural, university and island paradise don't show up in my launcher but seasons and expansions after that do.

i'm not an expert but from my opinion, the sims 3 maybe have an error in the cider or it's port.
why i said that? i have played many games that natively not for mac in my mac for example call of duty : black ops, NFS: hot pursuit, prototype 1 and 2. they work smoothly and never got freeze or quit unexpectedly or glitch. Glitch and many kind of error i guess is from the cider or port itself. maybe they're packed in not perfectly or anything else.
i suggest, when u're try to work on the error, try it from the cider or make a new porting like for any game else.
sorry if i wrong because as u know, i'm not an expert but i want to help Smile. that is my opinion

Hello guys,

I am thinking the same with you all. Even I was able to run my game perfectly three months ago, with no problem what-so-ever. But now, I can't run ANY expansion packs, not even the older ones..

And I am pretty sure it isn't about applying the cracks wrong or anything else, as I know how to do that and have done for a million times. But the game isn't working on my Mac, and I don't know have any idea how to run it as I am not an expert.

Attention! Possible Sims Installation Problem on Mac! Empty Re: Attention! Possible Sims Installation Problem on Mac!

Post by Guest Sat 03 Aug 2013, 08:50

I had the base game and expansions from different sources...I downloaded a lot of the new expansions and a stuff pack or two from a person who'd bundled everything on piratebay, only to find that the keygens and cracks and patches were .exe files that I couldn't access. Without that patch, I couldn't update my game so that it would let me install the new expansions. So I went looking for solutions and found the ultimate fix here. I got everything updated, installed, cracked, and working. But the gameplay itself isn't working properly. I can't get much of anything done without the game crashing or freezing. I'm wondering if some aspect of that might be that I have stuff from multiple sources so I'm thinking about starting over with all games4theworld downloads, as a lot of people seem to have had success with them. But people don't always differentiate which system they're having success on, so if there are issues on mac os...I'm not sure what I want to do. I'm on Mountain Lion, have over 380 gbs free, so it really shouldn't be a capacity issue I'm having here...Something's off. Just thought I'd throw my experience in here.

Although I have downloaded multiple expansions from this site, and never had much of an issue before after trying to download Late Night a few days ago all I have been experiencing is problems. So far, I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything multiples times fixing the little problems I could find. Now I am stuck at the Sims3 launcher with a 'Disk Authentication Failure,' I have tried every way I know how (along with some guesses)- so if you have a suggestion for me, or if you think I can help you feel free to message me.

 Hello,

Good luck with starting over and I am crossing fingers for you. But just want you to know, all games I ahve, every piece of it from here and I could't make it work like many others. But I hope it'd be different for you.

Hello,

I was having the same problem, either "disk Authentication Failure" or the other "Exception Raised" and in both way game doesn't work. I am pretty sure by now I am doing wrong anything wrong with cracks or updates. And I've noticed this problem occurs when someone starts from the beginning now, installing all the expansion packs right now.

Because many others, including me, installed every expansion pack before, and none comes across with any kind of problem right now. So this makes me think either something in Mac changed with updates or whatever or whole game downloads are broken for Macs. Both make me scare a lot as both are serious problems. So I have no idea about how to solve it.

Attention! Possible Sims Installation Problem on Mac! Empty BOOTCAMP

Post by Guest Mon 05 Aug 2013, 23:50

I know, I'm beating a dead horse. BUT – I had all these same problems a month ago. I read all the directions, I did alll the stuff. Finally, I bought a PC to play on. Alas, (gasp!) it broke. SO! I decided, on my Mac, to use Bootcamp (you already have it) to install a Windows (TPB is your friend) partition on my Macintosh HD, and run Sims (all the same G4TW .rars you've already downloaded) from there.
• You can set your machine to boot MacOSX by default. Just hold Option key after the bell for OS menu when you want to play in Windows.
• My partition is 50GB. 4GB for Windows, 30ish for Sims & all xpacs, then some OS breathing room.. and/or if I want to install some other games/software with shaky Mac ports... Like Superuser, for rooting my Android phone. You could get away with 40. If you're already giving up 30GB to a game, what's 4 more?
• Paying Mac users have these same problems. EA support for retail Sims3/Mac is non-existant. Fake a PC & move on with your life Smile

• Do not use Parallels or any other VM for gaming. The graphic traffic has to be translated back & forth from your PC game, through the VM to your Mac OS & back – resulting in slow, jerky gameplay on even the best machines. I've got a Mac mini w/ quad-core i7 & 16GB RAM. There's way better machines out there, but if it's shaky on mine it's prolly shaky on yours.
For a while, I didn't want to do this because I thought it was a cop-out. It's not; it's a real solution to playing Sims on a Mac. I'd rather spend my time playing than worrying about the latest crack/update, which files need to be re-downloaded & copied to xxx/xx/xx/xx, etc etc. PC players only do it once.

Attention! Possible Sims Installation Problem on Mac! Empty Re: Attention! Possible Sims Installation Problem on Mac!

I think I have found a FIX for SOME installations problems (only if certain files are coming up as documents and NOT the Unix executables that they should be)
I simply converted files using the terminal.
Use this prompt  chmod(space)+x(space)name of file to convert.
(Those (space)'s don't actually type it put an ACTUAL space.)

for example: "WHATEVER YOUR COMPUTER IS NAMED"$ chmod +x /The\ SIMS\(tm\)\ 3\ Island\ Paradise\ Install.app/Contents/Frameworks/tgUpdate.framework/CodeResources  [then hit enter]
(the info in red is what happens when u actually drag the file onto the terminal window it just copies the path of the file to change.)

hit ENTER and it will convert the document into unix/exe file WITHOUT actually having to change the ending.

A file named SETUP.INX will go from a document to an unix/exe file WITHOUT become setup.exe, in really really basic terms that  setup.inx should go from looking like a plain piece of paper icon to a grayish terminal like icon.  I went through ALL the folders within my .dmg file I made and converted almost  40 files that looked like a plain paper icons and then hit my installer and it OPENED and installed which is a big deal because that WOULDN'T happen before I did this.  I don't know if i'm still unable to upload images but I will try later to show what I did because I know it might seem really confusing.

I forgot to add that I also had to right click on the actual installer and select "show package contents" to convert files in those folders as well.. DON'T convert any of the Setup.dll files. I might just have to make a list of the file names I converted since I keep getting invalid image errors when I try to attach pictures to my post (someone tell me what I am doing wrong with that??)   also note that you can copy more than one file onto the terminal to make the process somewhat faster.

EDIT: Ok i am adding the files I changed with a stuff pack (fast lane) and a game update (island paradise) the the file names that just have a / in front are the files you see when you open your .dmg file or open the folder after un-packing from a download those with /foldername/subfoldername/file to convert name, you have to open some folders and those with the /the\SIMS\(tm\)\3 etc..etc.. are the files you have to convert from doing the "show package contents"  now do I think you need to do ALL these files.. NO CLUE but after doing them I got both to install

this is the FAST LANE FILES

I took this advice, and it's the best decision about this game I ever made. Yeah for me! cheers
(My partition is 75 GB because I couldn't install all the expansions and my CC with only 50GB)
Thanks for stating the obvious ! I needed a boost to put my head into that problem Wink
