Having a few issues

My sims are experiencing several problems. Firstly, I bought a mini-fridge for my university sims but (even though the fridge had 2-3 empty squares around it in every direction) they won't open it and a bubble is coming up above their head saying something is blocking their path. You know, the one with the blue footprints with the red cross through them.
And secondly, I threw a party and when my guests arrived, I attempted to greet them but my sim just stood in front of them aimlessly, yawning etc until 3am! The action was still in the top left hand corner as if it were still to be done, but my sim just...wasn't doing it My party completely failed because I just couldn't greet the guests. I will also add that my sim was not complaining of a blocked pathway and her needs were all green.
Anybody know any fixes or why these problems are happening? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything so I apologise if this has already been asked before.

For the fridge, can you give us a snapshot?

I don't think this fridge is supposed to be placed on the floor. Try and put it on a counter.

I have tried placing it in other areas with no luck and I don't think that's the case, as my other sim was able to get a snack from the fridge from the floor, but only once.

Try this:
Press Ctrl+Shift+C, then enter "TestingCheatsEnabled true".
Then hold Ctrl+Shift and click your fridge. Then click reset.

There is no option to reset. Only "Object..." and then when I click on that, the only option is "Delete it"

You reset it and you still can't access it?

Yep, still can't access it :/ And I don't have the monte vista world so therefore no pizza oven either o.o Other models seem to work fine but i've noticed that when I give my sims a command, they often stand for about 30 sim minutes not doing anything before they go and perform the action. Probably completely unrelated but still.
And bigger fridges are fine to my knowledge.
