Winrar 4.20 [SOLVED]

Hello,
I'm having problem with WinRAR 4.20 that I got from here.... Sad

So every time I run the setup for WinRAR 4.20 there's absolutely NO problem with installing it BUT when I try to un-rar something it doesn't have the option "Extract to...." it only has compress and etc... and I tried installing so many times but I can't get it to work....and I used the Ccleaner to make sure when I uninstall it, it's COMPLETELY gone.....actually sometimes it DOES give me the option to extract but in the middle of extracting it says diagnostic error or something like that..... Sad

Does anybody know how to get it work? Surprised

I need this program for VARIETY of different things.... Very Happy

I'm not sure..did you apply the included keygen, as described in the installation guide ?

Afterwards, when you open a .RAR file with WinRAR, it should look like this:

Winrar 4.20 [SOLVED] Into_t10

You say you don't have that "Extract to..." button ?

Besides, you can also mark all the contents with your mouse. Then drag and drop them out into an empty folder you created before. Also, you can press Ctrl + A to mark all contents of the .RAR, and then drag and drop them out.

Hello,

I still can't get it to work.
Every time I go to "Extract to..." it says no files or archives found even though I do choose something to extract to. Sad

any ideas?

Hello,

I know it sounds stupid, but how did you open the program ? You can open a .RAR file "directly"; so when you have a downloaded .RAR file, just double-click on that file itself, instead of using the WinRAR shortcut on your desktop.

Or right-click on the .RAR file and choose "open with -> WinRAR". Also, in that "choose a program to open the file with"-window, mark the box "always use this program to open this kind of file".

but I did try everything and I mean it EVERYTHING! Very Happy

When I choose the program it says "the archive is either in unknown format or damaged".
I don't know why but it does let me SOMETIMES to extract it but the possibility is 1 in 20! Razz

It's good to know that - but usually this is not a problem by the program WinRAR. Smile

Usually this means that the .RAR file you downloaded is corrupted, in which case you have to re-download the file, basically.

I'm not sure how you downloaded the file(s), but if you download via .torrent, then it's usually safe to pause or interrupt the download. However, if you download with a browser (Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) then you should NOT pause or interrupt the download. In that case, the download will become incomplete and corrupted.

Even if you didn't pause the download, and your internet "gives up" even briefly, then the download will become corrupted too. In that case, you'll still have to re-download (and maybe let your internet connection get checked by a professional).

But I downloaded it via torrent.... Sad

I have downloaded it a couple of times but still the same thing....
I don't wanna make a big deal out of this but this is a program I use A LOT... Smile

I personally say, just download the free "trial" of winRar from the company that develops it. the little pop up that it has open up each time is annoying, but I've never had any problems with it.

well try to uninstall then reinstall it if the problem persist then use this alternative 7-zip till u figure out the problem .. search google for it cuz iam not allowed to post external links yet cuz iam New!

It's probably not so important, but which version of WinRAR did you install ? If your Windows is a 64-bit version, use the winrar-x64-420.exe for installing. If your Windows is a 32-bit version, use the wrar420.exe.

Also, what is the bittorrent client you are using ? Most people (me including) use UTorrent, but you may even want to give another client (like BitComet) a try, though it's rather unusual that the torrent client is the cause of this...but sometimes it does happen though.

You will be able to post links after a little while (I think a week after registering ?). This is normal procedure on this forum.

Hello,

Have you tried a different .rar file? So ignore the one that gives the corrupt thing error and try a different .rar file.
Right-click on the .rar file and choose one of the "Extract" options. "Extract Here" will extract all the files to the current folder and the "Extract to [FOLDER NAME]" will create a new folder in the current folder first and then copy the files to that new folder. I recommend using the second option, even though it doesn't really matter.
