Updating and running Sims 3 without installing expansions?

So like the title states, is there a way of updating and running Sims 3 without having installed a single expansion. I have the base game but can't run it after updating the game as the Ultimate fix only works if you have expansion packs. So is there a way of running it without downloading the expansions?

Hello,
You can try the temporary fix (also found here), it's a noCD mod in stead of a crack and it doesn't require the use of expansions. It doesn't work for everyone though, and we don't know why that is.
If that's the case for you, the only thing I can recommend is installing one of the required packs.

If you still have a crack in place, you could try replacing it with the original .exe (found within the fix files) and try the mod again. Also, make sure the framework is in the right place.
If it still doesn't work, any one of those expansions (as you mentioned in your PM) will do. There's no need to install them in order, so you can pick any one of those. It is recommended to update all the way, but you can also update to the patch level of your chosen pack and use the crack you found in the file.
