Hello.

I started around 2 years ago, when my computer suddenly crashed. I had played sims 3 with around 6000-7000 cc and mods, and there was nothing other than it was a bit slow. Then I started with a new computer, and it kept crashing and didn't even want to start up. There goes some month following different guides on the internet - it's still the same. Finally this year I took up the though of playing it again on my new computer (earlier was used by a gamer, and all parts of it should be good enough for sims 3), so I downloaded the games, and installed them as it said. First time it is perfect, fast and working. Then I decided to download some cc (around 9 gb), but this ruined it all. I've tried CCmagicCleaner and sims3dashboard (which worked 1 year ago, but only for a short time) to find the bad CC, but according to them, it should all work perfectly, but it does not at all.
My launcher keeps closing down, when I try to install the cc (before I used CCMagic), and when I finally started the game, it stays in the black screen with the little blue wheel. I cannot even close it down by Task Manager, so I need to restart and try it againagain. I have tried to delete the cc from the game, block it, DEP, and more, but it won't start and just keeps turning the blue wheel.

Anyone who knows a way to find the bad CC (which I hope it is)? Maybe an other solution, or something new I can try? And it is not a solution to not play with cc at all

Hello Laura and sorry to hear about these issues,

Try going to My Documents/Electronic Arts and look for the folder The Sims 3. Rename that folder into something else or move it out from that location. That way, you will have removed all your userdata, like savefiles, mods and CC. When you restart the game next time, you can start over again, because a fresh folder will be created, in the same location (of course, you'll need to exit the game, to add stuff to that freshly created "The Sims 3"-folder).

As for those CC issues, I myself am using primarily the CC items from the official "Sims 3 store". these are safe to use. As for third-party stuff (fan-made CC items, basically), you always need to gather the available information yourself. Even if it's a lot of work.

It is primarily your responsibility to see whether CC is compatible with your game setup, but I'll try and help you with some very general guidelines:

-) items like hairstyles, clothes, other CAS items, and buy-mode objects are often safe to use, and do not need a specific patch version to run.

-) CC items that modify in-game functions (and which we call "mods") usually need to be checked for the patch versions they are compatible with

-) You cannot merge mods (don't do that please), but you may merge clothes, hair, buy-mode items, etc. Assuming all of them are safe to use, of course.

These are the basic things that come to my mind now. There might be more that I can't recall right now, and I may get back to you later. Please keep in mind - again - that these are only guidelines, and not "universally accepted truths". There may be exceptions to all these rules.

And this "dashboard" you were talking about, is everything but reliable. It can help to some extent and in a few cases, but you cannot expect such a tool to "do magic", and filter the millions of CC items that are out there. There is no such tool for this gigantic task. So for the most part, it will be up to you to figure out the stuff.

On a positive side: after you did all of that, you don't have to do it again, so you can play along. It's better to pay more attention in the beginning, than suffering "afterwards". But that's just my opinion.

Hope this helps you a bit. Smile
