CD-code generator? Empty CD-code generator?

Post by Guest Sun 12 Apr 2015, 13:41

I have been wondering for a time...

How big is the chance that I randomly can get a luck on "guessing" cd-codes on Steam activator without actually knowing the code itself?

Lets say the template is

AX84R-RQ9OL-BUR7S-QL8C4

Is there even a remotley possibillity that I after some random letter throwing, will get a luck and actually activate something?

Anyone else actually tried and succeeded this?

I guess anything is possible, but I would say the chance is very, very small.

Hello,

Let's consider this from a mathematical viewpoint first.  Looking for bad joke

The template you provided contains 20 characters, and in each character "slot" there can either be a letter from A-Z (26 letters total) or a number between 0-9 (a total of 10 numbers). Meaning: 36 possible characters in each slot (note that some companies use serial numbers with capital and lowercase letters too, which would provide another dimension of complexity...)

In your case, that would be 36^20 possible serial number combinations. And to give you an idea, 36^20 means:

36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36 * 36

Can you imagine what gigantic number the result of that is ? There are of course not so many copies in the world, of one particular game, but that doesn't matter. You will need to take into account ALL possible permutations if you want to attempt "guessing" a key.

Next: if you really succeed (which is extremely unlikely), you will be basically stealing a serial number which has not been sold yet. Now let's imagine someone in the world buys a game, which happens to have the serial number that you "guessed". And then that person claims "the serial isn't working". Steam (as well as those other game clients like Origin & UPlay) can see when a serial number has been activated, and of course what account the serial is linked to

And if the situation is, that a serial number has been activated "before" it was legally purchased, then you will be asked how that is possible. I can imagine that your Steam account would be banned and as an "extra", you might face legal action too.

Honestly, don't do that, it's neither worth your time nor the possible consequences. You can find good bargains very often, and it's not that these games cost a fortune (anymore). Or pirate a game straight away via torrent...

//EDIT

After putting 36^20 into the calculator, I end up with...
1.336749454 * 10^31. The latter part of the calculation is basically a "1" with thirty-one zero digits behind it.

What he said.

Also, brute force will get you nowhere. As stated above, it will take years just to generate a working code. The only thing that might significantly cut down the probability is that you know the algorithm how Steam generates its code.

To my knowledge, these serial codes are all totally randomized nowadays. So for every single working serial code that you believe you have an algorithm for, there will be at least one other (working) serial number that does NOT fit into your algorithm pattern.

Someone else on here recently asked for a keygen to activate a particular Steam game, and I replied the same thing to that user.

As unsatisfacory as it is, people should begin to realize that game publishers have wisened up now. Keygens are quickly becoming a thing of the past, at least as far as games are concerned (for smaller software, you may still be able to use pirated serials or a keygen).

You can still pirate games though, and if you really cannot do without "full online" features, then wait a little while until there is some discount going on. These discounts happen pretty regularly, especially at times like Eastern, Christmas, etc. If you're smart (and patient) you can do it like me and pay little money for legit Steam/Origin/whatever games.

Well, I guess Steam innovates it's security features. But, other games and software (from the 2000s) which have standalone installers can be attached to a debugger to know how keys are validated.

But, then again, like your last statement, I would like to buy my software/games once I have ample amount of money and a job.

And that is because these games/software from earlier times do not need any specific "internet verification", when activated. You could also try playing on cracked servers, when using a cracked game, though that may be a bit of a hassle.

You can also view it this way: if you ever wondered why in all these years, there is ("still") no keygen with which you can "activate" legit Steam or Origin games, then you know the reason for that now.
