Library (legal base game + pirate expansions)
Hello!
Well, I have some questions regarding legal base + pirate expansions.
The first one is about the legal base. My computer got scr*wed up a week ago, and wanted to know whether my sims would be available in my account's library. I remember sharing the old ones, but not the new ones (especially DA2 characters which I can make again), but others where original characters I have a blurry memory of how they were (faces especially). Did it happen to someone before? Well, I guess I'm telling you later when I install the base game again.
The second one is about using the legal base game and pirate version. I know I can have both on my computer and run them. Thing is for playing the legal copy I need to update the game meanwhile the pirated game won't be updated. Is there a problem as regards saving sims in the library, downloading from it etc? I guess I can't install the pirated expansions directly with the legal base game.
Any comment about using the library in such situation would be appreciated!
Thanks for your attention!

Hello and sorry for the late reply,
Unless you actually uploaded your creations to the gallery, there is no other way to recover your creations - if you say your files are gone now.
And even if you apply the pirated DLC to a legit base game of The Sims 4, you cannot download from the gallery. Without going into too many details for now, if you want to download from the gallery, you will need to install the legit Sims 4 on a different computer and download everything you want - from that computer only. After that, you could transfer the "Tray"-folder (in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4) of the computer with the legit game - and insert it back to the corresponding location on another computer, where you have your pirated Sims 4 installed.
In this sense, it's best to keep legit Sims 4 games and pirated games on separate computers.

Re: Library (legal base game + pirate expansions)
Well, I have to say you were right. I've lost all my saves and the last sims I made.
But I found my fav and most used household under "show something related to mods" so I'm glad I didn't lose them! (I've lost all my conversions from DA2, though ).
And what I discovered is that I can move the folders from and to Program Files and play cracked version and legal version, not at the same time but in the same computer (also moving the folder on Documents!).
Just wanted to spread what worked for me (. U.)!
From now on I'm gonna do as you said, moving "Tray" to that folder so I can upload them!
I wanted to ask something else. Is it problematic having both folders on the same computer?

If you mean the folder "The Sims 4" under Documents\Electronic Arts, then it depends. If your legit game uses the same folder, then your savefiles will be "created/modified" with a newer patch version, than the one from the pirated Sims 4. The current pirated Sims supports game version 1.13.104.1010. But the legit game is on 1.15-something already.
There may be more risk-factors, hence I deliberately suggested to have the legit game + pirated Sims 4 on different computers.
But if you really want to keep everything on just one machine, you will need to think about ways to avoid conflicts. For instance, if you play a pirated Sims 4, you will have the folder "The Sims 4", under Documents\Electronic Arts. Now, if you later on switch to the legit Sims 4 because you want to download from the gallery, make sure that you RENAME the folder "The Sims 4" under that location, and mark it in a way so that you can identify it later on. For instance, rename it into "The Sims 4_pirated".
When you start up the legit game, a new folder will be created with the name "The Sims 4". In there, all your stuff that you download from the gallery will be saved in.
Then comes the trickier part. You will probably want to switch back to the pirated game after that. You should again rename the folder "The Sims 4" (created from your legit Sims 4) into something like "The Sims 4_legit". Copy the subfolder "Tray", if you like, then.
After which you rename the folder "The Sims 4_pirated" back into "The Sims 4". And paste the Tray-folder there. Which will put your stuff from the gallery into your folder of the pirated game.
It looks a bit complicated, but this practicality-related issue with these folders under Documents\Electronic Arts, is another reason I usually suggest to have these things on separate computers. You can imagine (maybe), that the average user seeking help on here will probably be totally confused now, but in essence, this is a method to have both legit + pirated games on a single computer.

Re: Library (legal base game + pirate expansions)
Could a different account on your computer - both accounts with admin privelages - perhaps be a safer solution ?
Then transfer stuff from the Gallery via an USB Stick between the accounts.
The solution of renaming folders is, sooner or later, bound to go wrong.
I admit that such a procedure of logging in and out is time consuming and not very elegant but it eliminates mistakes.

Yes, that could also work out. But then, not many people have more than the default account on Windows. And these few people that do are mostly
- IT professionals, who might need the extra accounts for various testing purposes
- Businesspeople, whose job may require that
- and "well-meaning" parents trying to have some sort of control over their kids' computer activities
But that aside, I doubt the average player will have more than the default account, so it might be indeed more of a hassle.

I don't see the problems, making an additional account takes 5 minutes max.
Every account has its own "My Documents" folder, so no hassle with renaming folders.

Quantity (of people) does not automatically mean that practices are reasonable. While having certain accounts can be helpful in certain situations, I doubt the average PC user is aware of the technicalities behind that.
And I personally wouldn't use this trick myself, if I wanted to have both legit & pirated Sims 4 games.
