Are you sure it's genuine ?
How can they know your mail-adress when you download a torrent ??

Welcome to the forum @tixxyrose and sorry to hear about that, WhatDidUJustCallMe?

Certain internet service providers like sending automated mail like that. Like @Tarac said, have you been able to verify if it's really from your ISP? If it was, then there is this (and I know I may be leaning a bit too far out the window). I very often hear from people - especially in countries like the US or the UK - receiving these automated letters, but I yet have to hear from even one (1) person who went to jail for "merely" downloading stuff.

Nonetheless, try seeking out possibilities in your area of whether it is possible/feasible to switch the ISP. Or for now, try asking a friend or relative to download these things for you. At that point though, there isn't much on our end that we can do about this.

Also, check out this thread about VPNs here, if you like. Maybe it can help you.

Good luck, and I'm sorry about this.

Maybe not, but they can (and sometimes will - see France) cancel your internet subscription.

Your best choice would indeed be to use a VPN or use another network to download the stuff.
But choose the network carefully. You usually get banned on school/university/work networks for using torrents/P2P. Or it's completely blocked.
Using a VPN you can both circumvent this block and prevent being banned from the network, as they can't see what you're doing behind a VPN, as it's all encrypted.

Yes indeed! I am on  vpn NOW. When I returned to torrenting (was about a 4 year time flash to me)"sick + computer died But I am around-ish, again finally. lol Very Happy My ISP would throttle me every time I started dowbloading from TPB, etc. They "as of yet claim not to monitor you, but I had a friend hack my router, and my bandidth usage. They TRACK YOU, and even thougfh no policy yet with this ISP? Throttle you. My former IPS sent "threat letters" as mentioned. They jailed the poor guy who hosted Kickass Torrents. The U.S, got Poland to extradite him as I understood it. GET A VPN. I am at this moment actually seeding The Sims 3 Complete Store torrent. I downloaded it, and have been seeding about 12 hours. "No Throttling". I am currently using PureVPN, got a 13 month special, for like 23 bucks. No got throttled since. Works with things like Kodi, and to unlock "country/local restricted sites as well. There are a few rumours that they leak data. i ran dozens of leakage of ISP? My friend who hack checked it. No a trace after 3 months still., and some distrust as it's based in China I heard, but so far I get my top speed bandwidth, "low budget bandwidth for where i live, but i get it+ often. I went from downloads averaging 1mb for 5-15 minutes, or less at times, to 500kb, or even .003kb to 3.3 to 3.8 mb pretty solid "good for me" and before I was getting almost dialup with anything I tried to get free within moments. VPN... if you want free stuff cause your a po-boy like me. skip a meal or 3, turn off the light a few days & buy a VPN. Worth it! lol Wink

You can download the Sims 2, 3 and 4 "legally" for free via Zclient/ZLOrigin.
No VPN, no torrents, no hassle.

Even if you utilize the zlOrigin for downloading those Sims games, there is much more copyright-protected content out there. American Internet Service Providers - and the user above is from the US - oftentimes send these "threat letters" for many other torrents as well. In the context of the general situation in America, investing in a good VPN can still be important in my opinion if you torrent often.

Since you guys are way more knowledgeable than me on this, as I was reading the post I've heard of people getting their accounts suspended for downloads. I am currently living in Brazil and although our services are very expensive when compared to other countries, so far my problems have been few, although the server has blocked me a couple of times, which makes me download U torrent and set it up again, which is not that big of a hassle, compared to loosing or having your service suspended. I've been looking at the VPN services, the pay ones are outrageous here. So I've been reading and was wondering what you guys think of VPNBook services. Has anyone here used it or is using it? I will wait on your feedback before I download and install. Thanks!

I believe I once used it. It's a free service, so it's good for surfing the web or accessing blocked websites/YouTube videos, etc. But that's it. WhatDidUJustCallMe?

I have VPNBook but I don't use it. It has too many DNS leaks to protect your privacy. Most of the leaks went right to my ISP. Right now I'm using Windscribe. It's free but it only allows you a limited amount of gigs each month (refreshed each month) unless you pay for the premium service which gives you unlimited. The free one is OK if you are just going to use it for a few big downloads a month.

Closing this topic now, since we are drifting too far away from the original concern (that G4TW Sims torrents are being 'monitored', on an abstract level). Please search existing threads elsewhere from now on, or feel free everybody to open a new thread to discuss about individual VPN services. You can do so in the "Software" section here:
