Legit sims 4 base game and cracked dlc's?
So my boyfriend bought me the sims 4 base game for my birthday. This whole time I've just been using your version and there are no problems but now that he gave money to get me the legit version I want to use that. My question is, if I downloaded all the expansion and stuff packs, will I be able to update the game normally whenever an update comes out or will I have to wait for the cracked update? I haven't downloaded anything yet so I don't screw it up somehow. I know I have to be offline and not use origin if i have any cracked versions of expansions.

You can't mix original and pirated games., but you can play them besides each other when placed in different directories.
You can move the pirated game to any directory on your computer, even to USB sticks or external drives.
Bear in mind however that every time you switch over from 1 version to another you'll have to rename your folder The Sims 4 in Documents - Electronic Arts.
So it's not advisable.
For those who really want to play with both original and pirated:
1. Install original game via Origin
2. If an update is available apply it.
3. Open the folder of the original game - Game - Bin
4. Copy the file Default over to the corresponding folder of your pirated game (Now both games have the same version number) - no need to change foldernames when you switch from original to pirated and vice versa.
5. Both games now share the same folder The Sims 4 in Documents - Electronic Arts
When you play the original game it must have access to Origin. When you play the pirated game you must close all instances of Origin.
Every time an update for the original game is applied you must repeat step 4 above.
Items from the pirated game (DLC's you don't have in the original version) may not be availlable in the original game.
So all in all, it's better to stick to the pirated games unless you're willing to buy all expansions.

Indeed, it's hard to think of a good reason to go through all this trouble.

Hello!
The most "optimal" solution for now would be to keep your pirated Sims 4 game installed, and then install that Origin game, alongside it. My recommendation is that you actually keep playing the pirated game (!), because it has all the DLC. The legit Origin game does not give any benefits apart from quicker updates. As of now, you can't even use the Gallery anymore, to put the items in your pirated game (see this).
You'll be wondering why I suggested that you install the Origin game, then. It may be possible in the future that the galley items work again in the pirated game, so it may be worth keeping the Origin game as well.
As for switching between the Origin Game and the pirated one, I'd prefer the method with renaming the folders. It's a bit difficult to explain, and it has been discussed at length in earlier threads already, so I'll just link to one such thread:

If someone doesn't use any custom content or mods, that method might work. But since CC & mods are so popular among so many players, this procedure will only ask for trouble down the road. I don't recommend doing that.
And yes, you only get those DLC in the Origin game that you also purchased - either through Origin or another serial code reseller.

(As usual) I tend to disagree.
That method, sooner or later, will result in disaster because when you forget to rename just once, you'll have 2 exactly the same folders The Sims 4 in Documents - Electronic Arts

Perhaps it is better not to bother at all
Unless you really want to use your legit game to get access to the Gallery, once that'll work with cracked games again.
Other than that, I see no benefit at all in using a legit game alongside a cracked one.

Good for you. And no, you cannot have "two files/folders with the same name" in one location.
If you start up the cracked game while having the folder of the legit game 'active', you'll likely get the error about the user directory being created with a newer version. Correcting that shouldn't be a big deal, and you will know what folder belongs to which game.
If you start the legit game, while having the folder with the cracked game active, that could be more troublesome, but you will notice problems if you have CC.
Maybe it's a good idea to put a little text file in each folder (one for the legit game + the pirated one). And then you write "this is the legit game", and for the other folder you write "this is the pirated one". Still, the question about how to deal with custom content will need to be addressed though, and I don't think the method you described above adequately takes into account the issue.
//EDIT
Try using custom content yourself (with script mods, please) plus the method you described above. And then see how fun it is to deal with that in the long run.

100% correct but what I meant is you'll end up with 2 folders (different names) but with the same contents which is more or less the same as with my method.
Downloads from the gallery work perfect in the original game and are crossed out in the pirated version.
No need to change names. All you have to do is make Origin active or not-active.
And .... you can continue your game progress in both versions whilst in your option you'll have 2 completely different game-progresses.
