I always get the error "could not locate this item".

Hello, I tried the "rename folder" trick and it works with sims from the gallery, but with buildings I always get the error "could not locate this item". The lots do work in the original game though.

Hello and welcome to the Forum @junabalusara,

I moved your post to the correct section.   This is a known problem, that occurred first with patch version 1.24. It seems to affect all houses from the gallery, as well as some (?) sims. Though we found that a few other sims still kind of 'work'. See also the announcement here:

There is nothing we can do about that I'm afraid. Once the new (cracked) update is released, there is a chance that it might work again, but...we'll have to see. We shouldn't get our hopes too high up.
