Hello,
Do you also have City Living? And was that installed before, or after "Get to Work"?

Have not installed City living yet. Just going through one by one and trying to see if it works

Have you played the game before? Because that could be a possible cause, if you played it before on a higher patch level, this error makes sense.

When you legally purchased a game, it will be automatically updated to version 1.25.136.1020. (latest patch)
If you afterwards downloaded any other game (except City Living), your game version will be lower, f.e. 1.20
As soon as you allow Origin to update your game, all pirated expansions will be removed.
So once you've started on pirated games, never ever allow Origin to update.
(Best to keep 2 different installation-folders on your computer, 1 for the bought games and 1 for the pirated).
Regarding the error that the game can't be played and you must update via Origin, go to the Folder Documents - Electronic Arts - The Sims 4 and remove the file GameVersion. Then start your game again.
EDIT: as you've bought Base Game, Get Together and City Living and played the game your version will be 1.25.
You downloaded Get to Work which will reverse your game to version 1.13, reason why you get this error)
