ZLOrigin brings up normal Origin log in screen.

ZLOrigin brings up normal Origin log in screen.
I was able to launch ZLOrigin fine a week ago, but suddenly it stopped working. It ends up bringing up the normal Origin login screen instead of the ZLOrigin my games option. I also can't launch games through ZLClient, only getting an error message asking me to install origin to play the game. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling ZLOrigin/ZLClient and restarting my computer. No Origin background task is being performed either. I've also noticed that whenever I launch ZClient it updates Zx32, every single time, but never Zx64.
While possibly unrelated, For the past few months I've gotten an error message that "Windows is running in compatibly mode" but no compatibility options are selected. I can simply click continue and move on, but I though I should bring it up because it might be related.
EDIT: I launched ZLOrigin today (December 28th, 2017) and it worked fine, maybe the issue was fixed in an update? Works fine now though, so yay!
EDIT 2: It broke today (December 31st, 2017)! It was working fine for two days, but now the same issue happens.
EDIT 3: Windows Defender was messing it up, excluding the folder in Windows Defender fixed the issue.

strange, I tried to log in to ZL origin and although it looks as if it's loading Origin, it goes straight to where it should be. You did remember to click and start Zclient first? Before clicking on ZL Origin?

Re: ZLOrigin brings up normal Origin log in screen.
This was exactly my problem. I was agonizing over it all last night and this morning, and unfortunately I can't explain exactly what I did to fix it because I tried so many dumb things. All I can recall is that I did uninstall ZLOrigin with the unin000 file in its folder in program files, as well as disable windows defender to some effect, and move my The Sims 4 folder OUT of origin files into program files x86. One of those triggered it to work somehow. Unfortunately, it made me move the Sims 4 files back into the origin files folder or face having to reinstall the base game and all expansions, plus potentially face starting over. I also somehow lost my mods folder, which is weird... The whole thing is very confusing to me - I would NOT consider this "solved," so if administration can please leave this up for discussion, that would be very helpful! If you could please try these steps one by one for yourself and let me know what you find fixes it, that would be great. best of luck!
Edit: oh, also, to my knowledge the compatibility mode notice isn't anything to be concerned about and is not related.

Re: ZLOrigin brings up normal Origin log in screen.
When you move the install folder from Origin files to another location, the register still points to the old location.
Updating via ZLOrigin will result in a re-install in the folder Origin Files.
You should delete or amend the Maxis/The Sims 4 folder in the register.
Also in ZLOrigin rightclcik on the word Origin (left top), select Applications ->Advanced and change the location of your Sims 4 game to f.e. Program Files (x86). Don't add The Sims 4 to that location.

Okay, I figured this out with my boyfriend!
Go to number 4 on the list below and do that:

Along with any other antivirus-related steps you need to complete, based on what's on your computer.
