Sims 4 crashes and reboots pc when quitting game. [SOLVED]

I recentently bought a new laptop and installed your download of The Sims 4 like I did on my old laptop. I followed all the instructions and did everything like last time. My save was already on the computer prior to the installation, but the game automatically used my old save files. It worked fine the first time I was running the game and all my cc and mods worked too. Everything was the same as on my old laptop, except update 1.37.35.1010. and laundry day stuff.

I can still play my game as usual now and save it without a problem. But if I save and quit the game, the game and the laptop freeze. My laptop then has to do a full reboot.

Can you please help me? I haven't heard of this problem before, so I have no idea what to do.

I suggest you add the missing DLC's to match the gameversion with your downloaded CC as you mentioned that you placed your saves prior to the installation of the game

Maybe try looking for the option "Vertical Sync" in the graphics menu. Make sure to tick/mark the box, and play on. 

Other than that I'm tempted to think this is not related to the game. From experience I can tell that nearly half of all the laptops that me and various family members of mine purchased, were broken. A common weakness is the harddrive in those laptops. I would suggest you try playing other games, and see if you experience the same there.

When a hard disk is broken, it most probably won't load the game at all
Perform a chkdsk if you want (time consuming though)

1. Keep windowskey pressed an type R
2. select Run as an Administrator
3. Type chkdsk /F

Or after new updates of Windows 10
1. Rightclcik on the Windows-icon on the taskbar
2. Select Windows Powershell (Admin)
3. Wait for loading and then type chkdsk /F

I experienced enough cases where the operating system boots up fine, but then gives up after a while and with a bluescreen. The harddrives needed to be replaced in all cases, still.

I already have all the dlc, still have the same problem and bluescreen. I don't have this problem with any other game, just the sims 4, so I don't think it is my harddrive. I'll go check the vertical sync thing, i'll keep you updated.

Vertical sync didn't help, game still freezes. Had to log out to get it to quit the game without crashing the laptop.

Is it a problem that I have my game installed on my HDD because I wanted to save space on my SDD? Could that be it? I thought it didn't matter. Do I have to move the electronic arts folder to my HDD too?

Feel free to try and run the game from the SSD, though I believe too that it shouldn't matter. The folder Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 should remain on the same drive where the operating system is installed...if you move it away, your savefiles and mods won't be recognized anymore.

Plus, a new folder will be created anyhow under Documents\Electronic Arts...

As hinted before, you may also want to try playing a few other games, running from the HDD, to see if the same occurs.

As stated before, I have already played games from my HDD and had no problems with them. It's just the Sims 4 that gives me problems.

At this point I'm afraid I'm running out of other explanations; I know that they increased the hardware requirements for the Cats & Dogs DLC, but it's probably far-fetched to conclude that your problem has to do with that...

A daring attempt would be, if you tried creating/activating the "Admin account", if you are on Windows 10. And try running the game from there.

It doesn't work, I get an error when I try to run secpol.msc. Probably because I have windows powershell instead of command prompt. When I use windows powershell for option III, I get this message. Is that right?

That will log you into the account, just without a password (for the moment). It's far-fetched anyhow, to see for the moment if running the game under that account changes anything...

Doesn't do anything. Still freezes the game.

I did, however, find out that I can just log out of my account by using ctrl + alt + delete. If I log back in the game is shut down. That's the only way to shut down the game without crashing my laptop.

I do get a http://reshade.me bar when I start my game that let's me configure things I don't understand. Maybe that has something to do with it? I didn't have that on my old laptop.

I was thinking about something else though; does that laptop have two graphics cards built-in? Sometimes (especially more expensive models) they have both an "integrated chip" and a stronger card. 

Not sure how AMD works, but if you happen to have an NVIDIA card, you can under Manage 3D settings -> Program settings, make programs use a particular graphics card. If it applies to you, set the stronger card for The Sims 4.

Other than that, I'm afraid I can't say more for the moment, but we can leave the thread open of course in case someone else has a better plan. Sorry we couldn't help about this issue... 

Can't find what the 3D settings but I opened NVIDIA (no AMD! ) and updated the driver and added the hdd to the locations where my graphics card should look for games. After that it recognized The Sims 4. I'm not sure that's a good thing, but I'm going to test it again.

Okay no still the same problem. Where do I find these 3D settings?

Still can't find it (in Windows 10), but in device manager I saw that I also have an Intel graphics card (Intel(R) HD Graphics 630). Maybe that causes the problem. Do I just disable it from there?

I do have a NVIDIA program on my laptop but this is totally different to your screenshot.

If there is no other graphics device, you may be in trouble. As of the latest Cats & Dogs EP, they upped the requirements for hardware, and those Intel HD cards may not be supported anymore:

You could try running the game without the Cats & Dogs EP, although admittedly it's going to be less fun...

As I just said, I also have a NVIDIA graphics card...... I just can't find the settings you were talking about.

Sorry for the late reply and the second blunder   . Up until shortly I didn't even know that NIVIDIA Control Panels could look differently than in the screenshot I posted above. It seems though that (some?) mobile computers indeed have something...else. Does it maybe look like that for you?

I also now have a second administrator account called Administrator. No idea where that came from? Something to do with what we previously tried?

Yes, you have a "second" Administrator account, which is the one you unlocked before.
