Folders taking up too much space. [SOLVED] Empty Folders taking up too much space. [SOLVED]

Post by Guest Mon 26 Mar 2018, 18:59

Hello! This is a problem a little specific to my situation hence why I couldn't find a thread with the same issue (I might just have missed it, though, do tell me if I have!)

Anyhow, I'm currently in the middle of downloading the Sims 4 and all its DLCs from this guide and it mentions that I have to copy the DLCs into my installation folder, not move them. However, this causes the DLCs to take up twice as much space on my computer and I'm starting to get nervous that the whole installation won't fit. I wanted to post this before I eventually get to a point where I have to delete all my downloads and progress and simply go back to my "legal" version of the game (that only has one DLC of which I'm already getting tired).

My question is, could I delete the original folders I copied after I copied them into the installation folder? That way, they won't take up space I'll need for the rest of the DLCs and my computer can function without getting slow. The guide, as far as I can see, doesn't mention that I can delete them (again I might just have missed it so do point out if I have), and as of right now I only have one hard drive and cannot afford to buy another, so that's why I'm asking about it here.

I'm very grateful for any responses that can help!

EDIT: Edited to mention, my bought version of the Sims 4 (as well as Origin itself) are currently uninstalled from my computer and thus not taking up any space.

You can move the files instead of copying them. Most people will save the download to an external HDD/Flash drive so they can reinstall later if/when needed. That is why the directions say to copy the files.

Thank you! This is my first time ever doing something like this, so I didn't want to accidentally do anything I wasn't supposed to.

When you are using the all-in versions (Base game + all DLC's upto My First Pet, you can delete all your previous installations if you want.
You can also Open the download with Poweriso or Daemon, or when you have Windows 10, just rightclick on the download and select open with ... and select Windows Explorer.
The Open folder Game\Bin and start the game directly from the download by clicking TS4.exe or TS4_x64.exe.
In that case no copying or moving folders required
