Uprising posts about ZlOrigin. [SOLVED]

Maybe I don't have the place to say this, however I'm going to and if the mods delete this I understand no hard feelings.

I just want to say that this forum is not for ZlOrigin. ZlOrigin has it's own forums if you cannot get things to work. I'm not liking how the forums have been blowing up the past couple days about how you can't get ZlOrigin to work or your getting this error message or that error message...This is not the place to ask for help on a client that as far as I can tell is not supported by Games4TheWorld. 

If you took the chance to download it and it's not working go back to where you downloaded it from and click the forums link and post over there. I'm not trying to be mean or a b*tch but com'on people. Let's keep these forums clean for people who need help with G4TW download issues and not ZlOrigin problems that can be better resolved elsewhere. 

Maybe this post is going to go over everyone's head and people are going to do what they want anyways, maybe I've wasted my time posting this. However I had to say something.

I'm probably one of those people that have upset you because I have (and still am having) issues with Zlorigin.

For starters I didn't realise they have their own forum, I have no clue what I am doing with this Zlorigin stuff so I'm sorry I didn't know that. I would also like to say that I trust the people who run this site, which is probably why people came here first and someone from this site did write the manual which is also why I used this forum for my problem.

I think we've all been waiting so long for vampires and toddlers, everyone has got a bit over excited and those of us who have hit problems just want to sort it. So I apologise if my posts have upset you, I and I am sure everyone else meant no harm.

I think that if G4TW didn't want us posting about issues with the alternative method here, one of the people who runs this site wouldn't have created a guide for using the alternative method (which is in the first announcement in this forum) and they wouldn't have told us to post our issues with it here (also found in the first announcement). 

I get that it may be annoying for you or anyone else who has no interest in using the alternative method, but G4TW has decided to make it available, at least in part, through this site and has offered support to the best of their ability. It doesn't make a lot of sense to get fussy with people posting about it here when we were literally told by G4TW to do so.  

Not trying to be a jerk, but I feel that it needs to be pointed out that no one who is posting about issues here is doing anything more than what we were instructed to do by those who run G4TW.

No hard feelings at all, and I actually want to thank you for bringing this up (I moved your post to a more appropriate section though)! So here's my take on the current situation.

From my own very personal perspective, I was actually against the idea from the beginning. Indeed we are in no way related to the ZlOrigin project, and it is something that is not within our typical area of specialization. One of the people bringing this up a couple of days ago even asked for donations for ZlOrigin, at which point I was convinced this Forum was being used - to some extent - to advertise the platform. You could point out now "but it adds traffic to the G4TW Forum as well", and you would be correct, but still it somehow doesn't feel right. Mind you again, this is my personal perspective only.

The other side is, that over the years G4TW has become well-known, and we show up relatively high in the relevant search engine results. Plus, a lot of people were so eager for toddlers, and there is still no offline crack available. A lot of this traffic surge comes from people who have been with us for quite some time. And even in the case of new users, you can't quite blame them to "ask the folks on G4TW about ZlOrigin". After all, G4TW has over the years built up a very trustworthy reputation. 

User @thebluestlight pointed out part of what I wanted to say, and he or she is right. However, I also wanted to add that there is another dimension to it, in addition to the endorsement post from Edin. It is the dimension of what I call "pragmatic realities". If we didn't allow the entire thing, should we keep deleting posts with references to ZlOrigin? For how long? The official endorsement was, as much as I have to admit grudgingly, the logical next step to our overall handling of the situation.

And indeed, notwithstanding my own personal objections, the final decision to give (limited) support on ZlOrigin was made by the G4TW team as a whole. Plus it is a novel approach to the question of TS4 updates, that could not only bring general traffic to us, but also get people to talk with one another more again. Coincidentally I had a chat with Edin earlier today about this, and part of the discussion was that in theory it could even give new users a chance to help out their fellow simmers, and maybe even the chance to be invited one day to the G4TW team.

Late reply, and I know I'm bumping this thread. You can thank the likes of @Tarac for providing some guides on ZLOrigin, as well as users like @Loonieloose or @Misfit203 for further input and sharing some tips/fixes. 

All of which...has ultimately enabled us to be able to give Support, which may not be perfect, but decent-enough for those Sims games. I myself have started using ZLOrigin as well, for 'extracting' the updates, the DLC, and the 17 language string-files.

Closing the topic now as well, since the original concern has been addressed fully.
