Sims 4 32bit Post-Cats and Dogs Empty Sims 4 32bit Post-Cats and Dogs

Post by Guest Sat 07 Apr 2018, 15:22

I understand that after the Cats and Dogs expansion pack, Sims 4's minimum requirements has been upped to require at least 4gb of ram and a 64bit processor and OS. I only have 2gb of ram and only installed a 32bit OS.

I'm fine with not having Cats and Dogs in my game so despite applying the expansion pack .rar, the actual pack is disabled/uninstalled through the method posted here in the forums (I forgot where it was). Basically what I did was edit the RLDOrigin.dll and removed the EP04 folder. After doing that, I then installed Laundry Day Stuff and Jungle Adventures Stuff Pack. I tried playing the game but after a while, the game started to crash at random times. Loading lots, loading World Screen, etc. mostly while loading stuff I guess. So I tried disabling/uninstalling Jungle Adventures but left Laundry Day. The game seemed much more responsive after doing that, but random crashes still happen when loading stuff.

So I guess my question is: Does Sims 4 as a whole require a 64bit OS w/ 4gb ram PC to run? Or did I just mess something up in the game files? I just really want to have Laundry Day and future stuff/game packs and I'm fine missing expansions like Cats and Dogs. Also, having an updated game is almost necessary if you want mods and cc.

It seems reasonable to me that everything after Cats & Dogs will meet the higher requirements, although I cannot imagine that Electronic Arts will exclude millions of actual users from playing the game.

The game itself shows a warning when you run 32-bit version of the game with unsupported DLCs. I get this warning on Cats & Dogs, Jungle Adventure and My First Pet Stuff. Laundry Day should work fine. But that's EA so you never know for sure.

//EDIT

Just as @The_gh0stm4n said below - check Origin page of that DLC for requirements. That just confirms what I said. You should be fine with Laundry Day as it says:
OS: Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1), Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10
RAM: At least 2 GB RAM

Hello @kirbpop,

Note that what you saw, were the requirements for that specific DLC. If you look here however:
https://www.origin.com/deu/en-us/store/the-sims/the-sims-4/standard-edition#requirements

The minimum requirement there does not directly mention a 32-bit OS, but under "recommended requirement" it says 64-bit OS. I suppose from the way this is written, it is implied that a 32-bit OS should work for the base game? In essence though, if your hardware is weaker/older, you will need to check every individual DLC for its reqs. Feel free to navigate around the site I just linked to, to read up on the individual DLC's requirements.

Broadly: you should be fine normally if you install the DLCs prior to "Cats & Dogs" (but none of the stuff "beyond"). Which is when the requirements were upped. For the moment, I'm afraid that is all I can say.

But is it realistic that they will "rollback" their requirements, back to the level of pre-Cats/Dogs DLC? I don't know, they might just think that "a lot of people these days" already have stronger computers.

I can imagine though that the current (My First Pet Stuff) requirements will stay the same for subsequent DLCs too.

Sims 4 32bit Post-Cats and Dogs Empty Re: Sims 4 32bit Post-Cats and Dogs

I tried doing a fresh install of the game and removed all the files including the ones in the Documents folder. I installed the game up to Cats and Dogs and then removed the pack by deleting EP04 and editing RLDOrigin. Sad to say that even by removing Cats and Dogs, the game is still unstable on a 32bit OS with 2gb ram. It still crashes when travelling through different places, though gameplay is smooth. It should be noted that it doesn't ALWAYS crash when travelling, but it does happen frequently during that. Additionally, I didn't get the warning you normally get when playing on a 32bit PC with the Cats and Dogs expansion.

I'm hoping that this might be just a bug in the current version and is fixed in the future patch. I'll try updating up to 1.41.42.1020 and then remove every pack post-Cats and Dogs to see if it's still unstable after the fact.

Cats & Dogs requires a better computer. So removing everything post Cats & Dogs won't solve the problem.
You must remove Cats & Dogs as well.

Sorry, I must have worded it poorly but yes, I have removed Cats and Dogs and packs after it (so C&D, Laundry Day, and Jungle Adventure). Crashing still happens with that setup.

I'm not able to download My First Pet Stuff and the 1.41.42.1020 update right now due to data caps but once I have, I'll try applying the update and then remove C&D, Laundry Day, Jungle Adventure, and My First Pet Stuff pack to see if crashing still persists.

Have you tried replacing the folder Game by the folder Game from Toddler's Stuff ?
So delete the existing folder Game and then add Game from Toddler's.

That's a bad idea since @kirbpop updated the game up to Jungle Adventure.

I made alternative installers, splitting updates and DLCs. Try downloading full patch from here. It will clear your Game folder before installing so there are no conflicts. Read notes what else is included in patch.

@kirbpop, what was the latest (functional) G4TW update that you managed to play with, successfully? As harsh as it sounds, you may have to forego newer DLC, completely...

I understand. The last pack that worked was Toddler Stuff. Everything after that will make the game unstable. I'm not too shaken up by it since I'm probably going to get a MacBook laptop after a few months so I'll just continue playing on that using Bootcamp lol. Should probably note other users using 32bit PCs with 2GB ram to not update to Cats and Dogs in the installation guide Razz
