Sims 4 unable to start.

I have installed the base game as instructed but I get this message when I try and play it (with antivirus off):

"Unable to start:

The contents of your user data directory were created by a new version of The Sims 4 and cannot be loaded. Please update your game via Origin to play.

Hello and welcome to the G4TW Forums @jcd,

That issue can usually be fixed very simply. You can go under Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 and simply delete the file GameVersion.txt. Then you can play again, normally.

Am I correct in the assumption that at some (earlier) point you had a Sims 4 game installed on that particular computer, with more DLCs than just the base game?

Very interesting...I would've thought you maybe had something else (a.k.a. a cracked game on a "higher patch version") installed in the past, but whatever! Good luck!

Yeah I did actually. Been trying to install the torrented game for ages from many sources - you seem to be the only source that seems to help! LOL!

When I install the base game, it works (only after I delete the "Defaults.txt." file), Get to Work, it works (only after I delete the "Defaults.txt." file), but after I install Get Together it gives me the same error as above even after deleting the "Defaults.txt" file

Can you right-click on your "Documents" subfolder, and go under Properties? See if the checkmark "read-only" is active. If yes, please unmark the checkbox, and click "Apply". You can then try the same with the "Electronic Arts" and also "The Sims 4" subfolders. Another thought: if you say you "have to delete" these files, does your game work permanently then? Or do you have to keep deleting stuff?

Also, you mentioned the file "Defaults.ini/.txt", but this is not the correct file to delete. Again, the file is "GameVersion.txt", to be found under C:\Users\(your Windows name)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\.

There was something wrong with G4TW's Get Together release. I would recommend you actually download/install the follow-up release "City Living", which should fix that particular problem (Llama symbols in Newcrest, if I remember correctly). If that is not an option, I will try looking around if we still have the Get together-hotfix somewhere, that we posted back then.
