Occult Eyes and magic freezes

Hi, sorry if this has already been posted and whatnot.
I've been using the GFTW sims 4 version for a while now, recently updated to get the realms of magic and discover university updates. I believe I did everything correctly (I've done it several times now in the past with no issues) but I'm having a few problems. Occult eyes aren't working and when my sim attempts to practice magic she tends to freeze halfway through. I saw there was a realms of magic hotfix but I'm not sure if I can install it over my current installation or if it's meant to be installed directly after realms of magic and if it addresses these problems? Thanks a bunch.
