I just saw this

The Sims 4 Gallery Creators. Jim7EK

And while it looks very pretty it made me want to say some things about these gallery items created by popular creators even game changers but they are a topic all on their own if you ask me.

These popular items, I find them useless with a bunch of clutter objects, cluttered around. Sure they clutter them very nicely and it looks very pretty but in terms of playing in these houses I think they are pretty bad. I am sure there are some good ones out there but the reality is they use so much decoration in these designs it just makes me want to vomit.

I do too make houses, for fun, when I feel an inspiration for something. I shared them here and in a tumblr page, mostly for the other pirates and that's it. I don't care if they get seen or gets incredible downloads. Plus them getting too popular is not something I want then I'd be outed as a pirate user.
I am an architect in real life so I have a training to design buildings. When I build something I think about the principles in architecture and the function of the space. Knowing the sim logic I try to create stuff according to that. So when you're creating in the sims function of the space should satisfy the sim logic.
When I see those houses however I can just see a sim get stuck between those decorative fences, take hours to walk that brdige when someone else is in the way... Granted I haven't been playing sims 4 much lately, or at all, but I remember getting really annoyed at sims in sims 4 taking their sweet time to do something I told them and I feel these types of houses would make them worse.

I used custom houses in sims 2 and 3. In sims 2 it is easier to find functional houses, they are not filled up with clutter objects. I think I tried a custom house in sims 3 once or twice. They were bad. There were just so many objects in them It was just torture using them.
If any of you downloaded these types of houses I would like your opinion. Is it bad to play in them? Do you feel like you need to delete some stuff to get it functional or it just doesn't look as pretty as it does in these photoes, in your games?

And the note I wanna add about game changers. I don't trust their opinions. They are licking ea's butt, hyping the new packs, making people buy crappy games. Only reviewer I trust is LGR I think, and he refused to be more involved with the developers and most of the time sims doesn't even sends him a code to review a pack. I think when you pay for something it changes your opinion about a game, makes it more honest.

I use a lot of CC, as everyone here knows. When it comes to houses, I started being very careful for 4 main reasons: First, they have use too many cheats to build the house and when you get it in your game, the build is not playable. Many of these people build houses for picture taking and looks, not playability. Why would I want a house in my game that just looks pretty but I can not play. Second, many come full of CC, which means that I need to sacan that CC and see if it is up to date, many will be outdated and break my save, if I try to play; besides much of the CC used for one build I will never use again, specially all the clutter. Third, lately much of the CC use on a build is premium or sold. You get a house but you need to buy the content to look somewhat like the one you saw. Fouth, many of the photos have been enhanced with photo software and many use mods, like reshade... so what you see is not what you are going to get.

Not really, since we get our builds from the  EA gallery and they do not allow creators to use cheats that would make the lot unplayable. As long as there is no CC, we are OK, since EA items are "supposed" to update their tuning with every patch; the problem aises with CC that is use in a build, for example, prior to University and you will have problems with CC like showers, beds, etc. Just as an example, many clone items that have not been updated, hence they give problems. Another aspect that needs to be looked at and careful about is that many use popular Script mods in their game. Lately I was having a lot of problems with items I knew were not broken by any patch, but one of the script mods was using the items for animations and the tuning for such animations did not match the items and it corrupted that particular game. Then the dilema: do you play without that mod or hunt for furniture that is compatible with such mod and for how long? Any time I am going to add new CC, I run it through S4S, regardless. 90% of the time is good, alas, that remaining 10%, if not check can and will give you problems.
As far as the builds, do beware of popular House creators that entice with beautiful looking builds but never play tested it! And I do not mean use teleporter and poses to take photos, I mean to let  Sims loose to see if everything they use is working and the ones with more clutter and decor are the worst! But that is what we are here for, if any problem should arise, we would do our best to help. Carlos is tha man

Most houses that people download, they won't ever use any of them, except 1-2, at most. It's just about "having downloaded" them, for the sake of having them. I'm actually surprised that the drama going on about paid CC (Patreon) didn't yet swap over to custom-made houses... Shocked

@grieralexander

Aww no, I choose by default "with CC", when downloading these Gallery items.  IAmSoHappyEmergahwd  Why God.  Why God.

But since it is popular in general that people buy base games of The Sims 4 just to download Gallery stuff "at their own leisure", this might be something for them to think about. In the meantime I will seek to add some disclaimer to that Gallery announcement, that people should be mindful when downloading these.

@Unesty

I have a (very large) custom house in The Sims 3, which is pretty much the only Sims game that I still play - sometimes - nowadays. Everything is functional, though of course I simply re-decorated it to my liking.

I'll add some pictures later on. Haters gonna hate danger! beware!!

Also @The_gh0stm4n I am very curious about that house Very Happy I got used to just building my houses because non of the custom ones really satisfied me. So I stopped searching for them Oh my...

@Rudi50 That just made me think of people buying food to get pictures with it and then not eat it, buying unnecasarily expensive bags, clothes etc. just because it has a brand name. It's funny that this is happening with this gallery creators

I just read a post on Tmblr from a creator that got fed-up of people complaining about her houses not being playable. Her answer was: I make them to satisfy my need to look at beautiful stuff, they do not need to be playable; which is totally valid if you write a disclaimer for the people that will download them or if you just keep them to yourself. The problem with CC is that people do not realize that with every patch or a mod it can stop funtioning and the more you have, the greater the chances of something going wrong. For example: I have been preparing a tutorial on how to find broken CC through the instance # you get through a last exception, except that I have been getting last exceptions without instance numbers Facepalm . So, I am working on a built, that a friend asked for I am down to the last bathroom and 2 bedrooms... I get a last exception and in my game, last exceptions means a corrupted save in which sims will never be able to move in, luckly I save the build, every time a finish a stage of a room. I look for the CC I'm using and could not find which one was causing the problem, since I was using the same CC in other parts of tyhe build without problems. I started deconstructing the room and saving to see when it would stop creating a last exception. I narrowed the thing down to a bust of Ares and a bed-side table... Weird, since I had this items in other rooms Uh oh . Well, it comes to be that the bust on that, specific table caused the last exception Facepalm. Another problems for mods that use animations is that every single sofa, chair or item that is used for such animation usesrig assignment, if it does not match you will get an animation error, which to me pointed to a living chair, but there were no chairs! It was the darned table that was made to use a lamp not a bust; needless to say the table is out of my game now.

Influencer marketing in the age of social media is becoming more and more prevalent. EA are probably thinking:

Hypothetical EA management wrote:
"Why cast pearls before the swine"? Just give out a few free copies to self-appointed "social media gurus", and/or do some mini-contest, and let those few game serial numbers do their work.

Or something similar. But to be fair: even long before the internet was a thing, it was always clear (at least to people with enough critical thinking) that everybody has an agenda of something. That's how advertising and politics work. Don't try and convince the 'doubters'. Instead, focus even harder on your core-followers. The edgier, the better.

Every "review" has to be taken with a grain of salt. If you really want to do the work (I don't think it's worth the effort, but whatever), then try doing some research on the reviewer and/or the website/platform/newspaper/magazine/TV-channel/etc hosting the reviewer.

grieralexander wrote:

I was going to say something about exactly that, but I reconsidered, since I did not want to come across as too judgmental. But first off, in the age of social media, the only things that matter are self-representation and instant gratification.

Of course, of course: it has not escaped me that life can be far more complex than it may seem initially, on the surface of certain things. Maybe that creator just made the (principally correct) assessment that the gameplay in TS4 after nearly 6 years is still *not good*, diplomatically put. And therefore she concluded that "playability of the house" isn't really much of a practical concern, compared to the process of building a house and then getting some clout on social media channels and/or the online Gallery. Which in turn is something that I think a lot of people would agree on: actual gameplay is limited at best, but the building process at least offers some level of creative challenge.

There is another possible explanation, such as certain mental disorders (autism spectrum?). Or maybe they simply just like the process of building stuff. Et cetera. That's what I hinted at before: we should always at least try and make an effort in not being too judgmental.

Either way, TS4 wouldn't be the only modern game in that regard. I actually bought the Planet Coaster basegame (with that "Denuvo" DRM-technology) on Steam, when it was on a 10 Euro discount. Yes, you can build beautiful stuff, but contrary to my initial expectations that's about it. The main focus - back then - seems to be on building stuff, not so much on theme park management. But I digress, and I heard that the game got a few DLC in the meantime. Maybe they also changed something with the general gameplay.

In a way I can't blame EA and other mainstream game publishers. They are merely  exploiting  feeding on modern mass trends such as social media, and making money from that. Of course I personally don't approve of corporations being at least somewhat cynical in that regard, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. Corporations do, what they do.

But regardless, people eventually need to realize that at the end of the day everybody still has the option to just turn off their PC or gaming console. Or in the case of the disgruntled users: just delete those un-playable Gallery houses and move on to another creator. Or better yet: use your own creativity and build your own stuff.

Let's not forget as well, that a lot of these "extravagant" houses are done by YouTube/Twitch streamers. And part of any streamer's success is that they at least pretend to be edgy, outrageous, or whatever. Nobody wants to look at 'normal' houses. So what do you do as a streamer? That's right: you try to be edgy, and make some crazy houses.

I don't like the clutter either, but then every creation is a projection of its creator. And it's up to the 'consumers' to use it, or edit it to their own liking. Carlos is tha man
