"A serious error has occurred while loading ..." possible fix. (The Sims 3 neigbourhood loading)
Hello,
If you've tried the Windows 95 compatibility mode as described in this post, and you're getting an error while you're loading a save game after that (A serious error has occurred while loading xxx.world, we strongly suggest you restart the application), you may have to undo the win95 compatibility mode on registry level. Even if you uninstalled and cleared the registry.
Here's how to do that:
1. From the taskbar, click on the Start button
2. -Windows 7 and Windows Vista - In the field just above Start type: REGEDIT
-Windows XP - Click Run and type: REGEDIT
Press the Enter key on the keyboard
Click Yes in the User Account Control dialog (if necessary)
3. In HKEY_CURRENT_USER browse to:
Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
To do this, click the triangle or plus sign next to each item listed until you get to Layers
4. Click Layers to select it
Note: You may want to look in the right pane to see if things besides The Sims (3) are listed and you may need to expand the Name column to see the path (this is usually C:\Program Files\The Sims (3)\.....); if multiple items are listed, click just the The Sims (3) one to select it.
5. Press Delete on the keyboard
6. Click Yes in the Confirm Key Delete dialog
7. Repeat for all The Sims (3) entries.
Now close the registry editor and start your game.
Apparently the windows 95 compatibility mode may work for some, while causing this error for others.

Re: "A serious error has occurred while loading ..." possible fix. (The Sims 3 neigbourhood loading)
This worked great for me. Only issue i had is that it made a duplicate "Electronic Arts" folder in documents and loaded the game from that. So i just moved everything from the old one to the new one and SHAZAM it works!
