Sims 3 - extremely long load time

Hi, it's me again. I managed to install TS3 (yay!) and the only expansion I installed was Pets. I also updated to 1.29 and applied the ultimate fix. The first time I played, it took about 3 minutes to load, and everything worked fine.

Then I tried adding a few custom hairstyles and eye colors using the guide from modthesims (forum won't let me link it)

I only added 8 MB of custom content (all package files), but when I tried to run TS3 again, it took over 2 hours to load, and gameplay was extremely slow and choppy, even with everything set on lowest quality.

I'm wondering if maybe that guide was outdated, or one of my package files was corrupted, but I don't know how to check. I really hate the default hairstyles so I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's wrong.

My laptop:
600GB hard drive, 440+GB free
Intel i5 2.4GHz processor
4GB RAM
1696 MB graphics card (came with my laptop)
Playing on Windows 7 x64

Thanks for the program; quite a few of them were corrupted.

I downloaded a few more than should work, but they still don't. I have Resource.cfg in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 and all of my .package files in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages

I feel like something's in the wrong place but I don't know what to do. I don't have any custom content that's supposed to replace the default stuff. The game loads and works but none of my custom content does.
