No option to play with the new showtime options

so, I've downloaded the game (extremely excited) and I got my sim a job as an acrobat. But... she can only do the human statue. She can't perform for tips or anything, and other sims can't perform as well. Plus, she can't use the dj stand... I haven't checked other objects, but the fact that she cant perform really bothers me.

What can I do?

I don't know a lot about the in-game features of the game, but is it possible that you need to level up, before you can do new tricks and stuff?
