Black bars, how fullscreen/widescreen?

Well, my girlfriend got a new computer (An HP computer, with Windows 7) and when starting The sims 3, it haves black bars on both sides of the screen, it ain't widescreen.
I got same problem, I've an HP with Windows 7 at my home, and when I play CS 1.6 it got it too.
How to fix this? I been googling yesterday some, but didn't find any solution, only for some ATI graphic cards or something. I checked my GF's PC and she have Intel graphic card or something like that.
I don't know much about computers really
Anybody can help us out?
She got a HP Pvailion G6 computer.

Hello,
You can change the resolution in game, pick a widescreen resolution.
List of 16:9 Widescreen Resolutions
Resolution - Aspect ratio
852x480-----16:9
1280x720-----16:9
1365x768-----16:9
1600x900-----16:9
1920x1080-----16:9
List of 16:10 Widescreen Resolutions
Resolution - Aspect ratio
1440x900-----16:10
1680x1050-----16:10
1920x1200-----16:10
2560x1600-----16:10
3840x2400-----16:10
7680x4800-----16:10
