Sims 3 Household/Neighborhood Issue

When I attempt to change my active household from Edit Town mode, the game will load as it normally would. But then the loading will stop prematurely, and my user interface will disappear, leaving me on the map screen. I am able to move my cursor around the map and rotate it, but the UI is completely gone and I'm unable to zoom in, click anything, or do anything but move the cursor or enter console commands with Ctrl+Shift+C. Also if I reload the save, all the once occupied homes are empty.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: Creating a brand new save didn't solve the issue. Happened again upon moving in a new family into an empty house.

I have the same problem! I am not using any mods either .. what can we do to fix it?
