Age of Empires III - System Compatibility issue. [SOLVED]

Hello, is there a certain Windows requirement for Age of Empires III?
I have Vista, so I wouldn't assume it would be a problem. I installed the game correctly and applied the crack. I attempted to run the game and got a message saying there's a 'Program Compatibility issue' and discovered, after further research, that it is apparently not compatible with Windows Vista. Is this correct, or will it be safe to run?

Here's the requirements for AOEIII:

• Microsoft® Windows® XP
  
• PC with 1.4 Ghz equivalent or higher processor that supports SSE
  
• 256 MB of system RAM
  
• 2.0 GB available hard disk space
  
• 32x speed or faster CD-ROM drive
  
• 64 MB video card with HT&L
  
• Sound card with speakers or headphones
  
• Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
  
• 56.6 Kbps or better modem for online play
  
• DirectX 9.0c or above
  

You may need to install DirectX 9c. I don't remember if Vista ships with one, and if it does whether it's 9 or 10. Wouldn't hurt to try installing it anyway. I know I've played it perfectly fine on Win7, and Win7 was quickly made and released because of some issues with Vista as an OS - so it should work on Vista.

Nah, not only XP. That's the MINIMUM. You can't go below it, but you can usually go above it

I edited it into my first reply, but it ran fine on Win7 so you should be able to play it perfectly fine on Vista.

I'm rather confused as to why I'm getting that error message then. I am far beyond all those requirements. I decided to run it and it's apparently working. I suppose I can ignore the message since there's no immediate issue preventing me from play (so far).

If you mean purchasing the game in order to get rid of that error, why bother? It's definitely not caused by the crack.
