sims 3 update. [SOLVED]

I want to install Sunlit Tides and I just found out my game isn't updated. I searched for an update guide on the forum, but couldn't find anything. Do I just update the game normally or do I have to apply a patch or something after that too?

You can update the game normally but in my experience manually updating the game goes smoother. You can go HERE and follow the steps to manually update your game to the current 1.36 patch level.

Heeey, I read through that, but I didn't see anything related to updating the game :p Or maybe I'm just really slow...

The 2nd step tells you about updating the game.

Yeah I know the feeling.

So I updated the game using the manual patch and now I'm trying to apply the Ultimate Fix. It's not allowing me to paste the crack because it says that "The action can not be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program."
I'm really sorry if I sound really stupid or I'm annoying you guys, but I'm lost here...

NP, restart your computer then copy the Ultimate fix files to the game Bin folder.

No, you're not!

You probably get that error because your game launcher is (still) open. You can either close it manually from your system tray (next to your system clock), as Lady ElDi suggested or restart your PC, as Dracos66 suggested. Whatever is easier for you.
