Windows 7 question! Empty Windows 7 question!

Post by Guest Sun 14 Oct 2012, 22:57

Hey guys! First of all just wanted to thank you for all the great work you do! I have a windows-related question. I bought my laptop with a windows 7 home basic edition. For months now I've been resisting the temptaion of installing a better version because I'm not so sure how safe it is, I'm pretty confident in my computer abilities (I'm not completely clueless lol) but I don't know what the chances are that I'll completely mess up. I noticed you guys have a win 7 all editions download, does it really work? Will it be permanent? Will I be able to update safely?

And, is it really worth the upgrade? Thanks in advance for all your help!

Another thing, if I update my version will I have to re-install all my programs? Thanks!

What are your computer specs? And not really sure if upgrading to another version will truthfully be useful, since you can just wait another month or two and get a Window's 8 Version, and if you even purchase the Upgrade key Win 8 will only set you back like 40 bucks. And if you get some help to do a custom installation, can still keep the 7 on it, so if you run into a problem with a game or similar, and won't lose all your date.

But back to the point. What features are you wanting to get out of upgrading?
Looking at the Comparison Chart for WIN 7 on Wikipedia To see what features you mainly want if your still interested in upgrading at this time instead of waiting for Win 8.

Hello,

Yes, the version we have uploaded can safely be used for upgrading from inside Windows itself (we forgot to include the boot files to boot from the disc).
The Windows looks 100% original and therefore can be updated safely to the latest available version. All updates are safe to use.

Since it's just an upgrade, you won't need to reinstall any problems. Though it's recommended to keep a backup of important files.

Thanks so much! I'll give it a go then. Does it come with a crack or something?

Hello there,

Yes, not really a crack, but an "Activator". (Instructions included)
Please let us know the result!

I hope it's not to late, but there is actually a difference between an "upgrade install" and "Windows Any Time Upgrade".

An upgrade install (which I assume is what you have uploading here) will just copy your old installation to a folder named "windows.old" on whatever drive windows is/was on. The new windows will be a clean install. So you will have to install all the programs over again (not doing so might result in problems with the programs), but all the data and files will still be there.

Windows Anytime Upgrade on the other hand, actually upgrades the computer, leaving everything intact. I believe this is what most people want when they say they want to upgrade windows. It is surprisingly easy to use WAU without buying a windows key. Simply find a key somewhere (there are probably some some were in G4TW) and put it in. It will then proceed to upgrade, rebooting several times in the process. All the files and programs will be untouched. I usually advise to make a back up anyway, just to be on the safe side.

Just unplug your internet cable, I guess.

Ok, so I'm almost done downloading the file and getting ready to install here in a bit. I do have backups of most of my programs, but I'd rather not have to re-install everything.... (complete sims 3 collection included)... So will it erase everything or not? Smile just to be mentally prepared!

Also, which version is it? Ultimate? You mentioned it didn't have the files to install it from the boot drive, so i just need to install it like a regular cd, from my computer?

Well with how the download will work, you'll end up with a clean installation of Win 7. So you'll end having to re-install everything, no other way around it. The type of upgrade G4TW has is the first one that Chicken0895 mentioned.

I just googled around and since Home Basic is only released in "emerging markets" Window's didn't include the Window's Anytime Update capability.

Edit: So I recommend you just to wait for Window's 8 release and get a copy of it, since you might be able to do a Window's Anytime Update that way.
