After installing new "store" items... re-add to DEP?? [SOLVED]
Hi guys! I just recently installed all the new fancy holiday presents, santa hats and stuff that Admin sent a note out about (new holiday stuff in mediafire account) all at one time, it was like 4 simpacks. Anyway, I started my game up and had huge problems! Played for like 10 mins, decided to save after a long several second lag that the game recovered from, but attempting to save shortly after threw out a error 12. I had been saving my game adding a 1, then a 2, then a 3 etc through #5 after the game title as I read somewhere to do, overwriting the files and been playing for a couple weeks PERFECTLY with that little stunt, but now it's throwing off error 12's again and it makes me insane. I thought I had figured it out, and could get around the error codes. I'd done so many different things to my game (tried that goofy "program" to "increase your ram" {bullocks!}, added every single thing to DEP {which I always did anyway, but removed it all and re-added it just in case I missed any}, even changed the compatibility mode and whatnot) and it was working so smoothly and perfectly, I was surprised and happy. Today I install the few packs, and am wondering if I have to re-add stuff to DEP or....? Do I re-do the "store content" download steps? or....? I'm just kinda bummed out that my game's kinda gone back to the shitter. I don't know if adding these few packs actually DID that or not, wouldn't ever be able to tell, and completely know I have to probably wait until the EA patch to clean up everything... but I guess I was just curious if anyone's experienced any of these similar issues after adding items from the mediafire account to their game? (and this is in NO way stating anything negatively against admin or anyone else who provides the simpacks and the links in the mediafire account- I'm just genuinely curious) Thank you!

Error 12 is failing to save the world file. Typically caused by not having enough RAM - and is typically limited to 32bit systems. I see that you've tried to give it more ram - and I agree, it's a false positive. You can try allowing Windows to allocate more virtual memory, but I can't promise that'll fix it. Some other things you can try are detailed in a reply I made in this thread:

Should I just google this??? How can I allocate more virtual memory... and yes, I'm running a 32bit system... I'm hoping for an upgrade late Jan...

Click Start, right click on "Computer" then click on "Properties". On the left click on "Advanced System Settings", click the Advanced tab in the new window. Click on the "Settings" button in the "Performance" group box. Click the Advanced tab, then the "Change" button. From there you're on your own, sorry

Bahahah! I see how you are! Trying to cover your a*$!!!! LOL! It's okay, I completely understand not knowing my system etc. You've been pretty helpful throughout this forum I've noticed, so thank you!

I wouldn't mind suggesting values based upon your system... but I'm not sitting in front of your system. And yes, I cover it like a pro

LOL! But of course! Do you know of anywhere I might find suggested settings based on what I can physically see for myself? Like a website, or somewhere you think might be helpful. I'm not completely geektarded- I'm fairly savvy...ish.

Most places will just say to let Windows control it - and I agree - though this suggestion came directly from EA's support site. If everything else is working fine [not just Sims 3, but everything] with it set to let Windows control it I probably wouldn't go much more than the value shown * 1.5 - and I'd only go that high if you have plenty of hard drive space for it. Example: My C: has a pagefile of 4GB - controlled by windows. My C: has 526GB (50%) free space, so taking another 2GB wouldn't cause any issues.. but if I have less than 15% of the total drive space free then I'd probably think twice about it. Windows tends to complain about cleaning up the drive somewhere between 15 and 10% for good reason.

I'm not sure what my C: has a "pagefile of" nor how to find out that information, and I don't know if actual SIZE of the drive has anything to with it, it's a 2T drive and has tons of "room" left, but I don't think that's what you're referring to precisely. Okay, so I guess I lied, I'm not savvy at all, it seems!

Virtual memory in Windows is a file called "pagefile.sys" or "pagefile"
With a 2TB drive, if you have less than 308GB free then do this at your own risk. On the screen that I left you at, at the bottom you'll see the words "Currently allocated:" - that's the amount of virtual memory or pagefile.

Meh, bump it up to 4096 (4GB) and see what happens.

...and see what happens?! ROFL! Oh my... you're scaring me. So... what would happen if it um... *nibble fingernail* doesn't like that setting? Will Windows not run properly? I can always go back in there and put it back to where it was, yes??

You shouldn't have any issues. What happens sometimes is that people put values in that allows the pagefile to take all of the free space on the drive, and then Windows/other software can't write new files that it may need to. If you made a 1.73TB pagefile I'd point and laugh at you before .. pointing and laughing again. Most times it's a non-issue even if the person does this because Windows creates a small hidden partition that it can use in dire situations (Windows 7+), but stranger things have happened before...

Put the maximum size to 4096, and the initial size I'd put at 16.

Rebooting now and if my computer blows up, I'm hunting you down and taking it out of your hide!!!

I guarantee it will not blow up, however I make no promises on other forms of destruction. Muahahhahahaha.

LOL! Niiiiiice. Well I rebooted successfully. and I guess I will just keep an eye on the performance of my programs and such... you've been a font of knowledge and I appreciate every single second you've taken out of your busy'ness to answer my newb questions!
//EDIT
I have to add, although I think Admin's brain is going to explode after
reading all this drivel, lol! I just played my game for over an hour
FLAWLESSLY, and I mean seamless animation, error'less saves back and
forth in and out of buy/build mode, in and out of neighborhoods etc! I'm
not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that I cleaned a ton
out of my cache folders and upped my virtual memory as seen in this
whole thread, but my game is working like a serious dream right now! sweeeet! Stoked!
