The Sims - Medieval won't start! [Solved]

So I've made sure I've made the right steps to what it says in the Installation Guide and downloaded the "ultimate" fix but when I click on TSM, the screen goes all black as if it's going to come on but then it goes back onto my desktop

Nope no errors, not anything.

That didn't work either, I just opened it and then the screen went black and then there was a black window for like a millisecond. My Desktop icons went all blue like they would if I clicked on them (not double-click) but that's about it :/
I thought it might be that I just can't run the game but I went onto Can You RUN It, and I met all the system requirements.

If you meet all the requirements then you may need to uninstall TSM, and reinstall it without using the crack provided in the base game download.

First, though, check your video card and make sure it is supported AND that you have the most recent update for your card. If you have not installed an video update since the middle of March you will probably find you have an update for the card/chipset. It maybe that the video card update is an optional download in Windows Update, therefore not an automatic update but will wait forever for you to say to run it. If there is not one there that would not necessarily mean you don't need one. You need to check the site of your video card maker (like NVIDIA or ATI etc) or your chipset (if its an on board video chipset such as you find on a laptop). If you are looking for driver updates for chipset it is usually found on the site of the computer manufacturer or you might have o go to the chipset maker and hope they have a tool to identify the chipset - get that driver and update your video drivers.

I bring up the video driver update because they kind of crash you are getting sounds like a video driver issue - not the issues that EA fixed with the 1.2.3 update.

For some reason, this release had issues that caused some crashing with old sound drivers. I have no installed a sound driver update in ages so did not think of the sound driver but EA mentioned it as a troubleshooting issue for some crashes so I did update that and it did solve some crashes... allthough there were so many still it did not really help much

Once you know both are updated, and you have uninstalled TSM, and rebooted then install like this:

1> Extract the archive using WINRAR - if you use windows extractor or other archive program it could cause an issue with the files it uncompresses and this can cause the game to not be installed correctly or not install at all.

2> Install the base game by running the simsmedievalsetup.exe per the instructions in the directory you un-rar'ed the files too. DO NOT USE THE CRACK provided in that download.

3> If asked by your firewall software to allow The Sims Medieval to have internet access (the launcher needs this to get updates) make sure you allow it.

4> Un-archive the Ultimate Fix for TSM and used the crack in the /medieval/ folder in that download. Copy it into the /The Sims Medieval/Game/Bin folder and tell it to copy and replace the files not to copy and save both - you want it to overwrite the files of the same name.

5> Now run the sims medieval launcher and it should tell you that an update is available. If it does not automatically say that then click the updates tab and in that window make sure you remove the check in auto updates and then click refresh. It should then provide the 1.2.3 update. Although 2 updates were given for TSM - the 1.2.3 update includes the 1.1 update so you only have to install the one updated.

6> Make sure you allow the whole update process to run. Its a bit slower then most of the ones we are used to for other games so make sure that the process has finished and gives you the message that its finished.

7> Once the update is complete make sure you leave or uncheck the auto updates and then close the launcher.

8> copy the files from the /Crack/ directory in the Ultimate fix download. Make sure you tell the copy process to copy and replace the file and not to keep both files.

9> Use the TSM.exe in the game/bin folder to run the game. You can change the short cut to the game if you want and replace thesimsMedievalLauncher.exe with TSM.exe in the desktop shortcut (right click on the shortcut and select properties) in the box next to the word Target:

I had a great deal of problems trying to get past the crashes when I installed the crack files from the base game download, but by skipping that one small part and using the files from the /medieval/ folder in the ultimate fix download instead, before applying the patch, the game runs like a dream.

It actually is running better then the version bought in the box, from what I have read on various sites. Seems people are still having glitches and crashes and other issues - but I have had zero - actually had the game up and running for the average of 8 hours at a time and last night allowed one saved game run overnight to see how well these sim's do on their own with high free well.. and the game was still up running this afternoon without any signs of stress or crashing

It worked! I think it must of been the graphics card update that did it, cheers
