Sims overheating laptop Empty Sims overheating laptop

Post by Guest Wed 30 Jan 2013, 14:01

I've tried searching the web, and even searched the forum.
& I wasn't entirely sure where to post this, but this seemed like the most fitting place.

I've downloaded a program so I can monitor the temperatures, and when it's idle, it runs about 40 c.
If i'm on tumblr, or youtube it goes up to 60-70 c depending on if I have it on the fan or not.
& after looking up information about my processor, i've discovered that it generally runs hot, and while playing games, it usually goes up to around 80 c (as I've seen while playing other games)

When I ran it a moment ago to check my fps, it was up in the 70s. I currently have a little fan running across my desk, along with my cooling pad under my laptop.
I decided to play for 10-15 minutes to see how it'd get, when I checked it was at 71.

So it seems to be fine if I have the little fan blowing.
Anytime I have tried to play without it, it would over heat. (assuming it would go above 90)

Regardless, I still want to see if there is anything I could do to help my game, so I can be more on the safe side.
my FPS seems to go between 10-20 in the game, and I just looked at my intel graphics settings, and I have v-sync on, texture quality is balanced, ect.

At this point, I guess my question would be, do you think using something like twallans mods like overwatch would help prevent it from overworking and over heating?

Or does anyone know any other things to help the sims run more smoothly/ cooler? :/

Processor/ graphics card info if anyone wants to see.
Spoiler:

Hello there,

Hmmm... no, I don't think Mods will help fixing that problem.
Either way, use an extra cooler when gaming at all time. Keep all fans clears, so fresh air can get in and the hot air can get out easily.
It also helps to put your laptop on a table and using the laptop in a good ventilated, cool room.

What is your exact laptop brand and model?

It's winter, and i'm in the attic, so my room is cool. It is elevated by the battery, and the cooling pad, and is on a desk, with a fan.
The only thing I haven't done is clean my vents.
But with this set up, it seems to run a lot cooler.

I have a HP Pavillion dv6- 3121nr Entertainment PC.

I've tried having it scan my laptop countless times.
& it doesn't work for some reason.
The only thing I know to do is manually go through and check and try updating some stuff.
Like when I got it, I had to go and install drivers for my webcam to work.

Hello,

If you know how to do so, that'd be great. Go to the product page and update all available drivers.

Hello,

The Sims 3 is known for having erratic frame rates. It spikes to absurd values, incidentally, and that can cause serious overheating issues with your videocard. Did you use the in game code to display FPS? You could easily miss the spikes that way.
Perhaps you could use an FPS limiter for The Sims. I'm using it myself for performance issues. You could get more information and a downloadlink here. The actual link is broken, but there's a new link a bit further down in that thread.

There is a driver update at HP that will help. I have a HP dv7-3180. Some time ago I was also having some heat problems when playing Sims. The temps would go up to 80c or higher. My problem got real bad, to the point where my laptop would not start up. After cleaning out the vents and getting it to boot I went to HP's site and found a driver that adressed the heat problem (I think it was a bios driver). After installing it my laptop does run cooler. Now it rarely goes above 70c. I also have speed fan to monitor the temps and have the fan speed set to automatic. I'm sorry I can't give you the name of the driver or a direct link. When I scan for updates it doesn't show up. If I can find it I will post it for you.

a nother thing u can use if all that dont workis compressed air in the vents to clear out any build up of dust witch also causes over heating so if all the above files u can get compressed air witch is easy to use and get from most good computer shops
