Sims 3 crashed completley (0cx0000022)

I put a mod in my game that required a d3dx9_31.dll which I had but it crash my game after i started a neighbourhood, i removed the mod and it won't even start the game. I even restarted my entire game removing any and every save file and it still won't work. what's going on?

Try backing up and removing this folder completely: Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\

sorry, I haven't had time to play the sims to try. Do you mean the folders inside The Sims 3 or The Sims 3 ?

Thanks, but it still doesn't work. And I have it backed up. Would removing every single expansion pack as well as the base game somehow do anything significant?
