A lot of problems in my game (Crashing, University glitches, AND MORE!)
Hello guys, this is my first time posting here and I need some help with my game. Here are the problems I'm experiencing:
1. My sims won't get past 30 credits in University unless I save, quit, and load the game on the day of their final exams.
2. One of my sims won't get a promotion. The meter stays full and she won't go home even after her shift is over.
3. The game keeps crashing. I've been having this problem the past few days and I checked and it looks like it crashed because I don't have enough memory..... Even though I have 6GB installed.
The first two could be caused by a corrupt save but I still don't know what to do with the memory error. I tried every fix available. I only have 280MBs worth of CC and even when I took it out it still crashes. I tried the DEP exceptions, 4GB patch, EVERYTHING. The funny thing is that the game was still working perfectly when I first installed University Life so I doubt it's because of the expansion. I also tried lowering the settings to no avail. I can also play other games perfectly so I doubt its a hardware problem.
At this rate the only thing I haven't done is uninstalling and reinstalling the games.... All 9 expansions and 5 stuff packs.
Anyways, thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

Hello there,
If you haven't done it yet, you might want to read up on this here. Read also this thread here , which might help you.
I know that this might sound a bit "impersonal", but my tasks here on the forum would be too tedious if I keep typing in everything over and over again
Unfortunately, the University expansion seems to cause problems with many simmers, and I'm not sure if any of the above can help you, but please try it nevertheless.

I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised, but OK Go into "edit town" and save your sim(s)/family into the bin. Start a new save, enroll at university and try again.
You shouldn't make a graduation party either (I don't know if you did that, but that seems to cause problems too with some people).
This solution might sound "obvious", but from what I hear is that there is no definite solution that works for everybody, at least not at the moment.

Thank you. I'll try that out as soon as I get the chance to play. Now I only have the crashing issue to fix. I've already tried all of the fixes posted on this forum and I'm still getting crashes even though I have 6GB of RAM installed. Do you think reinstalling is the only way out?

Somthing that might help with the crashes and I don't know if you do. But don't ALT-Tab whilst playing the sims, It works for myself and others on steam, might be a issue with these torrent games to.

That it is. It's just part of the game engine itself, I think. It's like a stubborn child who wants all of your (and your computer's) attention, and the game will throw a fit if you do something it doesn't like.
Did you try removing the entire Sims 3 folder from your documents?

Hi,
You know what you are talking about right? SOME NONSENSE. Anyway, u got this crashing problem coz you don't have enough CPU. Try going to the task manager and set the Sims 3 application to high priority when you are playing it. Plus you can go to the Control Panel --> System --> Advanced system setting --> On the Advanced tab, you can see performance setting section, click it. --> Try adjust for best performance in visual effect tab --> Then in advanced tab, click adjust the best for: Programs --> click apply and ok. --> Restart your computer.

Yes, I made sure the mods were updated along with the CC and the game is still crashing. I tried taking the files out and playing without them and the game still craps out on me.
And to make things even more confusing I managed to play the game for a good 7 hours today. (I was building a house) And when I tried placing a fountain the game crashed again. I tried again without placing the fountains but no luck. The game was crashing after a few minutes again and the crash analyzer is throwing the "not enough memory" excuse again.

Hello,
How long are your playing sessions ? Or do you mean that you played about 7 hours without exiting the game ? If yes, I would try shortening the playing sessions (e.g. due to my computer's performance my sessions last no longer than about 1 to 1.5 hours), saving at short intervals and then exiting the game to "relieve" the RAM. After a short while you can start playing again .
//EDIT
And I suppose with the 4GB patch you patched the "TS3W.exe" file in Program files(x86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin (=the base game folder) ?
Also, make sure to delete the contents of the folder "CurrentGame.sims3" (in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3) after every crash and before re-starting the game.

I usually play for about 3-4 hours tops when I'm just controlling my household. I only go above it when I'm building. The crash problems are driving me up the wall. I can't build for more than 10-20 minutes before my game would crash.
It's mind blowing because I've tried EVERY SINGLE FIX available. DEP exception, already did it. 4GB patch, done. clearing the cache, done. I've pretty much done everything short of uninstalling the game. I've even tried playing without the store items I have and the game still goes ballistic.
I also know for a fact that this isn't a hardware problem since I've been playing Dead Island Riptide lately and that game runs like a dream.

Does this happen in a particular world ? If yes, you could try another world.

This happens in every world. I tried building in Hidden Springs and just like clockwork the game crashes after 10-20 minutes.
Also, I really appreciate you guys who are trying to help.

I'm not sure if this can really make a difference, but you could turn off unnecessary background processes too (with the task manager) - especially anti-virus or anti-malware programs.
Have you tried running the "TS3W.exe" file as "Administrator" ? Also, right-click on that .exe file and try running it in "compatibility mode" (for example, compatibility mode - Win XP).
Other than that, I would try downloading and installing the old DirectX9 (I did that myself long time ago; google for it).

Did you ever remove the sims 3 folder out of your documents to test the game like that? Doing that completely resets all user-added and changed components, making the game act like it's just been installed.

Don't forget to make a back up of the file, prior to doing so!

The simplest and fastest way would be just to rename that folder

Re: A lot of problems in my game (Crashing, University glitches, AND MORE!)
I just tried the solutions you guys posted and no luck. I'm really starting to lose hope for this game. I already tried lowering the settings and I still get the same results.
Although I did learn something new about the problem: It looks like it takes longer for the game to crash if I'm just playing the game. If you go into build/buy mode the game crashes in about 10-30 minutes. When I played normally and just controlled my household I got to play for a good 2 hours before the game did the usual thing of crashing.

Although this seems a silly question but how many times in the sessions do you go into build mode etc? I'm wondering if it maybe the build crash problem
Try these and let us know

Have you made the "mods" folder and put your store fixes etc in that? It's just a thought as silly as it sounds but you would be surprised the amount of people that forget to add that "Mods" folder
Don't forget to clear the cashe also

I've tried it and still nothing. Thanks a lot for the help guys but right now I'm at the end of my rope. I'm backing up my saves and store content because I've decided that I should just reinstall the game rather than cause headaches here.
