black screen of death. help!!!!!

I recently just installed University Life and my problem is why is that if I go to my dorm all I see is black. And I can't even see my sim inside the dorm.. PLEASE HELP pale

Are you sure you are on the right floor? Sometimes I'm in the 2nd basement of somewhere, and when I move, the game puts me in second basement even if it doesn't exist. Then the screen is black...
Try changing floors or double click on your Sim icon. Does it help?

yep, i'm pretty sure i'm on the right floor. there's just this static thing going on in my screen. making it black. how can i fix this? please help Sad

. even i'm on the street the 'black thing' still appears.

Ok. Do you have any CC or mods?
If not, delete both folder DCCache and DCBackup in My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3.
If this doesn't work, try deleting:
-CASPartCache.package
-compositorCache.package
-scriptCache.package
-simCompositorCache.package
-socialCache.package
-plus the contents of the folders "WorldCaches" & "Thumbnails"
in that same folder....

what is CC or mods dude? i'm not quite familiar of that term. hehe. i already tried and deleted DCCache and DCBackup but still it didn't work.

Ok. Is this new since University, or has your game always run like this?
is your graphic card up to date? What type is it? (Some are not supported anymore by EA...)
Try to run as Administrator. Does it help?

the game just run like this in University but in other packs it doesn't. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4430. i'll try the run as administrator tomorrow. hehe. gotta sleep. good night ^_^. thanks for the effort in helping me Smile

This graphic card doesn't seem to be supported by the game... See here.
Maybe the "Run as Admin" trick will help, on forums some say it did...

Hello,

In my opinion, deleting the cache files is not that important here; this problem seems more serious.

1) Try moving your sim out of the dorm, and then back in again.

Read that article very carefully. But I'll give you a brief summary: go to My documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3. Inside that "Sims 3" folder, create a new folder with the name Mods. Go inside the Mods folder, then create a new folder called Packages. Also, the so-called resource.cfg file goes into the Mods folder too.
So in the end, inside the Mods folder, you have the resource.cfg file and the sub-folder "Packages".

3) Now go here: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/MasterController+Phase+Ten
After downloading you should have a file with the name "MasterController.package". Put this file into the "Packages" folder (see above).

4) I now suggest you go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and backup the folder with the name "Saves". So that if something goes wrong, you put your backup savefiles back in again. Wink

5) If you have correctly installed that mod, start the game and go with your sim to any computer. Click on the computer, then select the following: NRAAS/Master Controller/Town/Reset everything.

6) Save the game, then exit it. Restart the game then and go into your dorm to see if anything changed. If not, it might be a bug, which can't be solved; you could then try to do a "clean uninstall" of the university expansion, but that would involve more work.
Alternatively you might want to stay in one of the houses, instead of a dorm ? Although it costs a bit, but if it is a workaround, why not ?

I'm not sure mods are the best way here, especially considering babyxie doesn't know anything about them...
Alternatively, you can try and download the up-to-date drivers for your card there. Maybe this helps...

If it really was a problem with the graphics driver, then it's in my opinion very unlikely that the problem would only occur in the dorm Wink

On the other hand, the problem seems to be too serious that it can be solved "only" with cache deleting. But OK, all of this is still worth trying.

And about the mods: Yes, it might be difficult for a beginner, but then: if there's no other possibility to try, apart from moving into a house, instead of a dorm ?

If solutions to problems in "The Sims 3" were always difficult, then we Helpers wouldn't be necessary. Sometimes we all have to make an effort to get the game running Wink
