Game freezes 10-20 min after starting

To explain my problem thoroughly, after i start the game everything runs smoothly and of course i want to make a new family. After getting about half-way through making my first member of the family, the game freezes even though the music continues. I wait for 5-10 min hoping it would unfreeze but it doesn't.

Then i lower it and look around to see if maybe there's a pop up from the firewall or something like that. When i bring it back up the screen is black and it is unresponding once again. I then have to Ctrl+Alt+Del to be able to exit the game.

This has happened before, exactly one year ago when i tried to play it on my laptop and now again.

It used to work fine(but slow) on my ancient, i repeat ANCIENT pc but on my laptop this happens.

My laptop is a Dell and it's got this:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz
Installed Memory(RAM): 4.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System

I know the laptop might be my problem but pleeeeeease try to help me! I've been trying to make this game work for sooo long and i love it so much and i'm so frustrated, cause i thought since i got a new laptop i might be able to play it even smoother but nooo.. And i don't have the money to spend on the game and all the expansions i want so PLEASE HELP!

Sorry to hear that.

But do you know how to "switch" graphics cards ? For NVIDIA graphics cards, try going into the "NVIDIA control panel".

Then look for something called "Manage 3D settings", then go to the "Program settings" tab.

Under "select a program to customize", choose the TS3W.exe, in the base game location

Helper edit: yes, there are problems with the "reply with quote" button. I don't know when this will be corrected, but until this happens you can try the following: Switch into the "editor mode" (the symbol on the far right of the bar). Now you "mark" the text with the mouse, in order to make it visible.
At the end of the text, click with your mouse next to the end of the sentence, THEN you hit "Enter". After that you type in something (you can't see it for now).

Now click again on the symbol "editor mode" - and your text should be outside of the quote box.

Even if your laptop seems powerful enough to handle that game, they are still not made for gaming, in the first place.


That said, what you could try is to un-install some of the expansions you don't like/you don't need. But other than that I'm afraid I have said everything I know about this. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful

Okai well i have updated both my graphic cards and so far everything was smooth.. I created some quick characters but i have been playing for a while and now i need to go though.. I will tell you for sure later tonight if it works but i think it does. The reason why i am not being too happy about this is because i dont want to get my hopes high But still..yay!
