Yes. Use the Traveler Mod from Nraas.

You can (of course !!) put your sims family into another town prior to patch level 1.55. The classic method is to just go into edit town mode, save your sims to the "bin". Then go to the main menu, start a new savegame, choose a lot and put your sims from the bin into that lot.

And another, even easier possibility would be to use the NRAAS Porter mod.
