Sims 3 can't start a new game

I've had TS3 on my computer for a few weeks now. It worked flawlessly. Last night, I decided that I wanted some expansions so I downloaded Ambitions, University Life, and the ultimate fix (all uploaded by G4TW). After following every last instruction, I completed the downloading, installation, and cracking of my new expansions. I started TS3 through the launcher (I've tried via TSW.exe too) and all went smoothly as can be. When it got the main menu where you choose between starting a new game and loading a previous save, none of my previous saves were listed. I though "hey, no big deal. I'll start again, I didn't get very far anyways". So, I clicked the dropdown menu to select a town and it shows the spots where Sunset Valley and Twinbrook (the two towns I have) should be, but the names aren't there and the spaces can't be clicked. When I click the "New Game" button, it turns grey. When I click "Play", nothing happens. What can I do to get my game to run?

Is there a difference between the value reading en-US and EN-us?

en-US is fine, it is what I have!

Mine has been at en-US and it still doesn't work after switching it to EN-us

Any saved item/game you want to keep?

I'm using a few mods and there's no saved games that it would kill me to lose. Should I try removing the mod folder?

Delete the folder Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3.
Then start your game...

Delete the folder ''Electronic Arts'' from ''My Documents''.

Deleting just The Sims 3 and deleting all of Electronic Arts from My Documents still doesn't fix it

I've tried updating from 1.50 to 1.55 to see if that would fix it. Every time I try, it makes it mostly through the updating until close to the end when I get an "Update Error: Invalid File Found" error. Could this be part of the problem?

After a complete re-install of the base game and all of the expansions, I've gotten it to work.
