Need help with file Empty Need help with file

Post by Guest Sat 28 Sep 2013, 04:53

I wanted to copy a household and lot package from my desktop to my laptop so I used the "share" feature to make the file. It has a couple and the house they lived in, in the file. I copied the file to a flash drive to my laptop. Now I want to save the file to my game but I can't figure out where to save it to. I tried SavedSims and Library but I don't see them show up along with the other households when trying to set up a new game. Where do I save the file?

Hello,

As for the sims, did you try to look here too (where the red arrow points to) ?

Need help with file Pictur10

And your lot should normally be in the bin in "edit-town mode".

Alternatively, you might just copy the whole "The Sims 3" folder (My documents/Electronic Arts) to your other computer. And of course, paste it into the same location on the other computer too. By that you should have your mods/CC, saves and everything else back again. Smile

No the only place I looked for them was in edit town mode when you go to the bin to pick a Sim to place in a house. I don't know where I need to save the file to get them to show up there because the package file contains both the Sims and the lot. If I can't figure it out the I may have to go back on the desktop and save only the Sims and just move them into a new lot on my laptop. But I wanted the house they were in too.

Shouldn't these exported things be ".sims3pack" files ? They should be in the "Exports" folder (My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3) then, once you "exported" them in the game. I guess you would have to copy that file, and then on the other computer paste it into the "Downloads" folder and install it like any other ".sims3pack" file (with the launcher).

But again, you can avoid all of this if you just copy the whole "The Sims 3" folder and paste it into your other computer.

I can't copy the entire Sims 3 folder from the desktop because the desktop does not have the same files/downloads/CC that my laptop has. This is why I wanted to add just this household and lot to add it to my game files on the laptop. I will try to install it with the game installer like you said.

OK, I wasn't aware of that, but yes, let me know the result.

I tried to double click the sim3pack file to see if the launcher would install it, nothing happend. So I tried copying the file to the Sims 3 downloads to install it from within the launcher but when checked it won't allow the Install button to light up and the file has no file type or preview.

Just to be absolutely sure: if you click on the button in the picture, you should normally get a ".sims3pack" file in the "Exports" folder. This is basically what (most) uploaders on the "Exchange" do...

But sometimes the launcher itself is just bugging; maybe you can try to install these ".sims3packs" with CC Magic (google for that). But I have to leave soon; I'll come back to you later. Smile

Yes I did see that and it created a sim3pack file. Is there a way for me to send you the actual file so you can see if it works in your game?

Hello,

Please download and install CC Magic. Afterwards, run CC Magic and click "Rebuild". Bear in mind you must have the folder "Mods" in C:\Users\(your computer name)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3.

If you don't have this folder, download it here: http://chii.modthesims.info/FrameworkSetup.zip

Hello,

I should have posted this before, but first I want you to try CC Magic, like I mentioned earlier. Here is a quick guide on that program: https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t7029-the-sims-3-cc-please-make-sure-your-game-has-the-latest-software-updates-and-try-again-error-s-100-solution

If that doesn't work, I will think about how you can upload the file, so that I can check it. Good luck ! (and I should have posted that small CC guide in the link earlier Embarassed  ).

I was going to suggest saving the contents of your Sims library to the flash drive, then transfer the contents to the 2nd computer's original Sims Library folder.  But it looks like you've already tried that.

If all else fails and you have an account over on the official site, you can upload the lot with the household to the Exchange, then download them together (from the Exchange) and delete them from your Studio if you don't want to leave them over there for everyone else.

I do a lot of saving and moving files from one drive to another on the same computer, but less moving from one computer to another.

Or, if you have a Mediafire (or similar) account, you can upload the lot and household to that site so you can download it to your other computer.

I have the file on a flash drive already, and copied it to my laptop in My Documents. I just don't know where to put it in my game. Ok I have CC Magic installed, but i have no idea how to use it to get the sims3pack to work LOL

What we don't go through for this game, right?  You would copy the contents of the original library file to the Documents>My Documents>Sims 3>Library folder on the 2nd computer.  You can choose not to paste any repeats (like EA lots/sims) if there are duplicates.

I've never used CC Magic so I can't be of any help at all with that...sorry.

Hope you get your sims/lot straightend out easily Very Happy

Hello,

To use CC Magic, simply drag all of the sims3packs you downloaded (except the neighbourhoods) to C:\(your computer name)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads. Afterwards, run CC Magic and click the button "Rebuild" on the top of the panel to start merging the sims3packs. Bear in mind that you must have the Mods framework I mentioned before.
